  1. Agreed. But when I see some of the times some training groups are running I don't think it's unlikely. Look at some of the Bowerman Track club times lately at their own group races.
  2. I think he's going for it but to knock off 14 seconds off his road record time will be huge. Without too many strong pacers even harder.
  3. And the 5000m. Joshua Cheptegei broke the road 5k record by 27 seconds this year in 12min51. Let's see how he goes on the track.
  4. Don't see much point in paying for a virtual event. The reason I pay an entry fee is to run against others and experience the event atmosphere. As far as cheating goes it'll no doubt happen. Saw numerous examples with the Comrades virtual event. Some in error no doubt but others just cheating. Slight deviation off topic but I always laugh when I see the initial pace displayed on people's Strava activities and it seems impressive. But after clicking on view analysis and look at the actual elapsed time and pace and the truth comes out.
  5. Unless they can offer financial incentive to enter many elites won't enter such races. Different story for top amateurs but most elites rely on other big races with more prestige to build their career and attract sponsors.
  6. Think there have been a few from SA who have taken part. One chap from the Hilton area was there a couple years ago I think?
  7. In terms of tv coverage it won't be that different to any other big major Marathon race where all one really sees are the leaders anyway. Will be interesting to see how the runners approach this. Will they be inspired to run super hard? Without the hype of the crowds etc what will happen? Of course there will be the usual appearance fees and bonuses so that plays a role.
  8. Are you tempted to try the bean diet?
  9. He's been creating a good thing with his channel. No showing off or being false. Just good videos. Putting out a video everyday must be quite a challenge. Amazing how many pairs of shoes and other gear is being sent to him now to review.
  10. Agreed. People might be more cautious in the way they live but eventually normality will return. As soon as media stops harping on about Covid we'll see a big change for the better and if everyone tried to stop watching the news for a while the levels of positivity will return in a big way.
  11. Too true. Might find some Pegasus Turbo 2s.
  12. The Pegasus is more of an everyday runner and can be used for the longer runs too. Pegasus Turbo is more of a racer. Ignoring price the Nike Next % and Alphafly are the proper racers as I'm sure you know. From short distance and all the way up. What about Adidas Adizero range? I'm not too familiar with the Adidas though. Check out Seth James Demoor on YouTube if you haven't already. He does a daily video and does lots of shoe reviews.
  13. Could also ship through me in Netherlands if nothing else works.
  14. Never used one. But seems a good price. Just the flasks would be about £10 each I'd imagine? Your biggest issue would be getting it to SA. Not very likely for a long time unless you know someone on a repatriation flight?
  15. Would a bit of olive oil on the teeth work to get them unstuck?
  16. The body of the runner was found. So very sad. RIP
  17. Seeing this makes me so depressed about how things are in SA. I know it has been going on for many years but it's so sad that the good people of SA should have to even think of such things happening. Spending time in Europe the last couple years I must admit I haven't once had the feeling of unease or fear of getting robbed when going running or in general day to day living really. Absolutely it's not all roses and sunshine in Europe and crime exosts everywhere, but I have realised more and more that living the way one has to in SA (generalising as not all towns are equal) is just not right. The build up of fear is continual and unhealthy. Slight diversion from me. Apologies
  18. Looks decent. I have the Aonijie Withwind 5l and for a running vest I have the Salomon S-lab Sense Ultra 5. I very seldom wear a hydration pack or vest but must say I really like the Salomon vest. With 2 soft flasks it's plenty and very comfortable. When I get into more mountain running in Europe I'd go with the Salamon vest if water carrying isn't a big requirement. That being said the Aonijie isn't bad at all so I'd imagine the vest you're looking at would work out and price is way better than Salomon. And how often would you realistically need to wear one anyway? I ordered 2 Aonijie packs from Aliexpress (1 hadn't arrived after 60 days so I submitted a request for refund. I was refunded according to their policy but it then arrived anyway) and the Salomon I got at a great price in the U.K.
  19. I saw a post earlier from Comrades saying that they will be arranging delivery of t-shirts and goodie bags for the 2020 race between 14 and 31 July in bulk to the various running clubs. Then clubs will get hold of their runners. Makes complete sense to me rather than sending individually. I have however just seen the post has been removed?
  20. Agreed. This was the biggest factor in improving my running results. When I started running more consistently some years ago I was running almost every run at a hard effort thinking I would get faster. Only once I started running slower on most runs and incorporating interval or hill repeat sessions (quality sessions) in one or two sessions a week did I see decent improvements. My easy pace has now become faster over the years. As for running and cycling. I have seriously neglected the bike part but did find that hopping on a bike for Amashova a few years back with only 2 or 3 short training rides before, it was surprisingly easy. Running definitely helps the cycling.
  21. It seems like their statement was written by someone who has never gone for a walk or jog in their life
  22. All I can do is laugh. ASA provides yet more comedy.
  23. And the same method worked just as well for so many of our local running greats. Bruce Fordyce, Jackie Mekler, Alan Robb, Wally Hayward etc etc. (edit. of course all the modern technology wasn't around then but if it were would they see much better results? I'm leaning towards a no).consistency. focus on the basics and enjoyment are key. Not gadgets.
  24. I see where you are going in the explanation. But what happens for a route with more climbing than descending as your example assumes equal uphill to downhill? Relative to an equal effort flat route a net uphill course run at the same power as the flat route will no doubt take longer? If pace has to reduce somewhat on the uphill sections to maintain the same power then the route will take longer. Or is an adjustment to required power made if it's a hilly course but a similar PB is intended as on the flat course?
