  1. Had this issue on my son's bike, to cut a very long story short, bought this BB from Aliexpress. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32899151818.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.27424c4dedvuoo Problem solved. I used the Aramex shipping option from Hong Kong, didn't want to wait for the normal shipping which takes too long. Ended up costing about 800 to 900 Rands total.
  2. Don't know what I would do without a compressor assisting with setting up tubeless, changing sealant, rim tape.
  3. Rim tape hack is to buy roll of normal duct tape, cut down the middle. It will be good for four wheels.
  4. Save your money and get a platform rack. Cycle lab have some specials, I recently bought one and it is very solid. Problem with these types of racks is they cannot carry full capacity, take longer to put bikes on and off, also more likely to damage bikes. Also they do not have the tail lights and number plate holders, which sooner or later will land up in a traffic fine. Have patience, watch the specials and second hand sales. Sooner or later someone will sell you something reasonable.
  5. I see Ubhejane are planning Hillcrest to Holla ride on 12 June, it is free. https://fb.me/e/4cbGGuYrN
  6. RC7000 is an awesome bike. Just bought one for my wife. To evaluate condition look closely at the shifters and the rear derailleur. These are the two areas that wear the most on a road bike. Bikes from inland seem to have less corrosion. Older bikes could be wrecked or nearly new on a spectrum. So condition is important when you compare bikes.
  7. There is a common route from Hillcrest to Holla. I have ridden it twice. Mostly offroad, some tar. Some people ride it the other way. I can send it to you.
  8. Something to check, push down on the bar on both sides when the bike is stationary and you are off the bike, see how much movement there is. Should not be a lot. You would hear noises or see extra flex if the bar is weak or cracked.
  9. Option 2, if you are a good rider then drive back home Day 3. If you expect to be a bit tired after the race then sleep over the night after day 3.
  10. During the ride. You could be out there for 8 hours, miss lunch each day.
  11. Many people say Sani is not that technical, but you can still get badly hurt. So for a beginner I would focus a lot on skill training - the basic stuff you should be able to do very well. Before the race fit a new Barzo Vittoria tire to the front, you'll thank me. Summary tips for Sani: Don't crash, eat a lot, ride slow.
  12. I was commenting on Stans / MTB sealants in road tubes. I think that was the original question asked for this thread. So to be honest, I think it does work and is worth trying.
  13. I use the MTB sealants on road tires, like I said, it works half the time. If the puncture is too big, it doesn't work.
  14. My record for a tube is ten patches. I tossed it after ten because the tire was feeling lumpy, so I do like to patch...
  15. I have used sealant in my road tubes for a while, I found it sealed about half of punctures. However, you couldn't patch the tubes successfully once they had been exposed to sealant. I do like to patch my tubes, so I don't use the sealant in road tubes anymore. As an alternative, you could carry a small bottle of Stan's with you (and a valve core remover), if the puncture is small, then insert Stan's and bomb it with some CO2. This is my strategy when I ride with tubular tires in a race.
  16. Don't get paraffin on brake pads. I only clean the drive train with paraffin, rinse with water and dry in the sun.
  17. I go into the shop often to fetch stuff I want, I work close-by. Prices are very good, if they don't have something you want, will keep you updated as to when it will arrive, then reserve one for you.
  18. https://www.kreitler.com/wattage-information/ Check out this link, some wattage measurements for different diameter rollers. The Tacx are 3.93 inches in the middle, so you can work out a table for your weight and tire pressure based on this. I have done this for myself and it appears pretty close.
  19. I had this problem with Shealth and Discovery App. Called Discovery call center this morning, the call center said they could see my two workouts in their back end, but it was not reflecting in the points awarded, they did something manual on their side and now my points the last two days reflect on the app. The technician that assisted the call center agent told her there weren't any problems on their side and I should call again and speak about the settings on my Samsung Shealth app if the problem continued. Of course I mentioned that if Discovery can see the missing data in their back end systems, the problem is probably not on my phone.
  20. I made a batch of this wax, it works ok. Like a wet lube. Used it on the mtb, rode through water, it stays on quite well, does pick up a little dirt. Once poured into the small bottle the mixture goes solid, like a very soft wax. If you leave it in a glass of hot water it melts and you can apply it. May want to do this outside as the xylene smells slightly. I used 150 grams candle wax, 200 ml paraffin oil and poured the molten mixture into 6 x 100 ml bottles, each with 35 ml of xylene in, so probably used a little less wax than the recipe suggested.
  21. Try liquid paraffin from Dischem. I am going to try the recipe. I have tried candlewax on its own with mixed results.
  22. Rapide.co.za sell them.
  23. I would worry about spoke tension on a carbon wheel if you skipped a few holes. Uneven tensions would make some spokes break sooner, also too tight and a spoke could pull through the rim when you are riding. Not a catastrophe, but expensive to repair. You can buy Novatex hubs on Aliexpress for less than R1000, repairing the carbon rim is going to cost a lot more than that. Rather don't chance it.
  24. I have heard of the pig testicles stuff. It's called testis compositum. I think it is a homeopathic placebo treatment.
  25. I am a big fan of Hatherly, hope he wins. He would only be allowed to wear the jersey in ebike races, so not too often unfortunately.
