  1. Or the outlier talent on Zwift in SA during covid that never crossed over outdoors once the racing started. So odd that one to me......
  2. I have also tried Indievelo (along with pretty much ALL the other virtual sims, none of the other ones got close to grabbing my attention). It is a direct competitor to zwift but worse in many ways - far less people, routes, gamification, training plans, worse graphical design, etc. Zwift racing also has no peer in my opinion. However, it has some KEY advantages: 1. Zwift is amazing but justifying 17 USD per month is hard when there is a similar option for free (for now) 2. Indievelo allows for offsetting of your gears. Not the "trainer difficulty" setting that just changes the slope simulation (although they have that too) - with Indievelo I can actually do fast speeds on the flat without spinning out on my gravel bike, which I can't in Zwift. Potentially fixed with virtual gearing, but only limited trainer supported for now. 3. Indievelo has a functioning gradient / profile map (this is more an annoyance that Zwift just can't get this right for some reason) I've cancelled zwift and it will remain cancelled until indievelo starts charging, after which I'll have to re-evaluate.
  3. Have mine for quite a while now. Steering is nice. Specially in Zwift races and team time trails (if the rest of the team (who do not have steering) allow me to use it...)🙃. Now waiting for the firmware update on the Kickr 5 to enable virtual shifting...😐 But kickr 5 was also last in line for the firmware update for "Race mode" when using the 'Direct connect" Virtual shifting currently only available for the Core and Kickr 6 as far as I understand.
  4. I’m about to correct you because you’re WRONG!!!!!!🤣😁 Hehe. As was mentioned in the last post, you can use it on your stock cassette. That’s what I’m doing. @thebob It doesn’t necessarily have to be your 14t cog. Zwift and Wahoo do their witchcraft and calibrate it to wherever you’ve decided to leave it. I went up and down all my gears front and back until I found the quietest combination (I really need to highlight just how much quieter Zwifting is now!!!) and that’s where I left it ( I just checked it and my current ratio is 36-21) The calibration then did the rest of the work.
  5. New season started. Maddie le Roux from South Africa is a finalist.
  6. I was fortunate enough to have a friend visiting family in the Netherlands. So the family ordered them and the friend brought them back. I must say, given the amount of South Africans I see on Zwift, they really could make it easier for us to get their products.
  7. I was always under the impression that these would just be “nice to haves”, but when Zwift announced that they’d be integrating virtual shifting, I just had to get them. Absolutely loving them.

    IndieVelo

indieVelo syncs with 3rd party training apps, eg. Intervals.icu workout of the day, whereas Zwift only does TrainingPeak (as far as I know).
  9. All, Just invested in the new Tacx Flux Smart Trainer and now want to use the capabilities of the smart trainer. I have been using TTS4 for quite some time (I have a Tacx Genius) but want explore Zwift. I have been reading up on it but I cannot seem to find answers on my questions. Zwift seems to evolve around online riding with other Zwift riders around the globe. Does that mean I can only ride at predetermined rides/events? If I come home and decide to ride, will I be able to? If so, will there be other riders? Will I be on my own if I do not join pre-scheduled events? In essence I want more info on how the rides are initiated. How are the routes determined? There seems to be only two worlds (Watopia and Richmond) but seems to be VERY short. I generally do rides between 40km-70km. Are such routes available? Is there enough climbing on these routes if I want to do some good hill training? How steep are the hills? Is Zwift vs TTS4 Real Life Videos worth it? Some feedback will be REALLY appreciated.

    IndieVelo

Since last week's update it is available to all on Android; and currently the iOS version is available to subscribers. The bots' AI is pretty good, enough that even races with mostly bots can be interesting. But there are events with no bots if you prefer. https://events.indievelohub.com/ I like that the wind direction and draft has an impact on your trainer resistance. Different areas in Zwift are more visually distinct though, much easier to know where you are on a route.

    IndieVelo

I tried IndieVelo out for the first time yesterday (Cape of storms), and it's almost indistinguishable from Zwift. Mainly less features and gamification, but perfectly viable as a free virtual training app. To me, it's the perfect solution - I cycle indoors less than 20x per year so I am too cheap to pay R300 a month for a subscription (on top of gym fees, bike maintenance, events, nutrition, permits, kit, etc, etc)
  12. Hi all, What is the cheapest smart indoor trainer that is compatible with zwift? It has to be the one that can automatically change the pedaling resistance according to the app. Trying to get an IDT set up going without breaking the bank... So far I have : * An old laptop / ipad * Internet * Old fan * Old roadbike * Space in the garage / house Any other equipment I need? If anything I've mentioned above has been covered elsewhere please do me a favor and post links? TIA
  13. I listen to music and also use the Elite Sterzo Smart steerder for Zwift, it is more fun to take the bends as you would, when riding on a race track . I can duck in behind other rider for slip. The feeling on the bike is also more realistic with the steerder.
  14. A few friends did their Baviaans prep on their trainers .... 5+ hour sessions 😬 I rather do a couple of shorter zwift rides, then head outside as soon as work schedule and the weather provides a gap. Cold weather is fine, but I try to not go out when rain is predicted.
  15. The coffee break on Zwift is nice for bottle refill, quick break and you stay with the group i.s.o. pedalling away on your own again (riding with robopacers).
  16. +1 for Rouvy. I tried Zwift and hated the game-like experience. Rouvy has really nice routes, many in 4k video and you feel like you are there. They even have Clarence Drive (Gordons Bay to Rooi Els). I like the New Zealand gravel roads or the Norwegian fjords. Previously 1 hour was my absolute max on a trainer but now I can easily do a 1.5 - 2h trainer ride.
  17. I could not agree more but there is value in these sessions, can't see how people can do 100km on a zwift ride.
  18. I simply cannot spend longer than about an hour on the trainer - so it's intervals or a zwift race of 30 to 60 minutes. I find the latter very entertaining. Zone 2 on the trainer is a working definition of hell for me.
  19. Do your intervals sessions (if you do these) on the trainer and then invest in some good quality gear to withstand the elements outside. Using the Robo Pacer (Zwift) or the Pace Partner (indieVelo) helps, as well we riding with ERG mode off, helps pass the time without any interruptions.
  20. I use Zwift but shucks I can’t stare at an animation doing the same thing for long 😃 Managed 95 minutes Z2 this morning with Spotify podcasts thrown in, still fell short of the 2 hrs I was meant to do.
  21. zwift and netflix/youtube
  22. So last night I took a leap of faith and decided to give myWhoosh a go! Sjo...17Gb download - but all cool. I have enough bandwidth. I know I only did one ride, but I must admit I was thoroughly impressed. First impressions last..right? System: i7 (9700), 32Gb Memory, RTX 2060 Super. I selected a flat course 2x laps (Alula 16km per lap, only 54m ascent). Wahoo Kickr v5. What I liked: Set all graphics to ultra (highest). I got VERY smooth graphics, running at 30fps 99% of the time. Very short pauses about twice in my ride but hardly even noticed. Graphics quality is GREAT. Perhaps not entirely at the level of Zwift - but darn close in my view. Screen layout very useful and informative. All telemetry present AND it shows avg speed of my ride (after 50 years, Zwift still does not show this) I linked ride to Strava - no issue. Not worried about Garmin Connect as my watch alos records and uploads to Garmin What I didn't like: Nothing much really! The telemetry between my Garmin and PC very different. It was a flat course and although I expect downhills to cause Garmin/MyWhoosh to be different, I did not expect it to be that much. After 30km my Garmin was nearly 4kms behind. Garmin showed 26km, MyWhoosh 30km. Not too worried as time in saddle is all that really counts. Very rapid changes when it comes to inclines/declines. I find Zwift more gradual, where MyWhoosh seems to change gradient and speed instantaneously. Not realistic. I will definitely use MyWhoos again! And it is FREE!!! Bye bye Zwift!!
  23. Zwift stops syncing with Vitality every three months as the security token expires and requires the Vitality technical team to manually reset it. Is there anyone else that is experiencing this issue. Everything worked perfectly until late November 2022.
  24. Hello everybody, I am brand new to Wahoo / Zwift, so I hope I don’t embarrass myself with this question: I have tried one or two rides on Zwift but I don’t feel like the Wahoo Kickr resistance is appropriate for gear/cadence/speed that I am meant to be feeling (maybe I’m weak). I discovered my GRX rear derailleur has a clutch which helped take the slack off the chain but I still think it is not calibrated correctly. I have tried with ERG mode in and off. I have also done that spin down calibration. I’m not sure how to check, but surely there is a way to select different cassettes under settings to ensure the Wahoo configuration is correct for the bike. I did a interval session today and it was an absolute disaster trying to maintain the 85rpm cadence but keep the watts low enough to 65W in zone 2. When the cadence went up to 110rpm I would exceed the watts required by 200-300W which doesn’t seem right. Any suggestions would be super great! I have a Wahoo Kickr 4 with and Silverback Siablo CF (2023 spec):
