  8. So, I've bought a new Garmin 810. I need to do a firmware update. However, when I connect it to the Windows PC (I've tried multiple) it isn't seen on the PC. The cable obviously works, because it's charging. I'm getting irritated. Grrrr. Help please!!!

  10. Hey Guys, Quick question regarding ANT+ I looking to get a Garmin watch for the MRS - it is a run/bike watch with ANT+ The watch can connect with a SPD/CAD sensor. My question is - will I be able to link it with the PWR sensor from the Wattbike? Does ANT+ discriminate between what data is recorded? If I link my 910XT via the PWR sensor it still gives me CAD & SPD - so by that rational - connecting via the CAD sensor should still allow that data to be recorded, right? Please advise? PS: I will try to link the Wattbike via the CAD sensor tonight to if it will accept & record PWR data.
  11. So, I've just started commuting to work a couple of days a week. I've found routes that are reasonably quiet (for Sandton) and I can do 80% + on paths and pavements. My wife is not as keen on this idea as I am. Can't understand why - with tons of life assurance, I'm worth much more dead than alive... To put her at ease, I promised to set up a live tracking system where she can see where I am in real-time on her iPhone.. The Garmin Live Tracking system seems to work via email only. What apps or programs are available to solve my problem?
  12. I am in need of a new heart rate monitor for cycling and running and am contemplating the Garmin Fenix 3. There are however many unhappy complaints about the unit freezing, losing Ant+ / Bluetooth accessory connections and inaccurate GPS measured distances to just name a few. I understand the firmware updates will address some problems, but how much has the problems been eliminated thus far? The last thing I want is a unit that irritates me because I spent a fortune, but the experience is not so smooth. And if features doesn't work or gives trouble mid ride/run - NOT EVEN AN OPTION. Then I spend less on a unit that only do basics - well. I would appreciate if those of you that have spend some time with the Fenix 3 could shed some light on their experiences and how firmware versions has helped or not helped.
  13. I'm market to get myself a cycling GPS computer, as far as I know there are a lot of different models on the market, but the question is which one? I'm familiar with Garmin devices as I have an Fenix 3 but for cycling it is a bit difficult to use as there is not much data fields as required. Basically I'm looking for a device for; 1. Heart Rate Monitor 2. Import a previous activity to race and improve your time 3. Speed / Cadence 4. GPS 5. Battery life......yes good battery life! Please share your honest opinions and thoughts! Thanks guys!
  14. Over the weekend I went trail running in Gordons Bay, long story short my 310 got ripped off my arm whilst tumbling down a ravine. I bought it brand new from someone on the hub (so no slips etc) about 4 months ago. Boxed with all accessories, manuals etc. Has anyone got experience with going through Navworld to upgrade to a newer model and pay in some? How would this work? The plastic where the metal pin fits in is now cracked and opened up. Thanks in advance!

  18. I'm sure this has been handled elsewhere, but I got bored while searching... So, the Receiver of Revenue owes me about 10k. I think I deserve a power meter. I'm sure there is a whole thread on PM vs Wheels and all the other debates, but I'm ready to splash the cash on a PM. I've done quite a lot of research and based on my needs and budget, I'm happy to have a left side only device. Does anyone have any real-world input for me. I like the Stages, but am concerned that if I upgrade my bike, I'll need to change PM's if I don't buy Ultegra again. I like the Garmin, but am concerned about some fitment and durability issues. All advice gratefully accepted.

  20. HI Guys Not sure if this has been posted before.. I have battled with slow satellite pickup when I first start my devices up. You can set the devices to search the SA grid first, improves the pickup. Garmin 500 settings below, not sure of the others, but should be similar. > Go to "Settings" > Go to "System" > Go to "System Setup" > Go to "Select a Position format", scroll down with the arrows till you find "S.African Grid" > Hit enter till you are done and back to the menu. Makes a big difference when starting up to find the satellites.. Will try on my 910XT this evening which takes forever find satellite's. Cheers Alton
  21. Most sports watches I’ve owned have always shared a few common traits: they’re bulky, plasticy and generally a bit nerdy looking. Garmin’s fenix range of GPS multi-sport watches have changed all that. Their latest edition, the fenix 3, has been strapped to my wrist for the last month and as far as watches go, never mind sports watches, it’s a looker. Click here to view the article
