  1. Hi all, Just wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself to the people here. I have entered this sport about a week ago and actually did my first proper ride today, nothing too serious, did the medium course at Rietvlei in Alberton. I got awesome swop deal on a 2011 Scott Aspect 20 so that's my ride - for now. I did make the mistake of buying the wife a real cheapie bike as I first want to see if she is interested in the sport. Going to have upgrade the shifters, rear and front derailer. Going for a Shimano Acera setup there. At least it will be a little better until I can get her a proper bike. My daughter of 9 seems to be very keen and at least I bought her a much better bike than I did for mom. Nice twist gears with Shimano components. She finished the 5km track with me on Saturday - very chuffed with herself. I am very impressed to see how friendly cyclists are on the forum and on the trails... However I must say some bike shop sales people can seem very snobbish sometimes. If you are not there wanting to spend R7500 or more they not really interested in dealing with a person. It's a bit of a generelisation but that has been the experience thus far. Can you guys recommend any good bike shops in the south and east of JHB. Cheers Douw

  3. Hi all, I'm due for an upgrade and am stuck between 2 bikes. What would you sugges: Momsen AL429 or Scott Spark 960 with AirShock upgrade. Any advice would be highly appreciated.
  4. Looking for the person that purchased the second Scott Contessa from TVRIGGS over the weekend, we have been supplied the incorrect front wheels on the bikes, if you could contact me directly to allow us to get together to switch them so we both have a matched pair of wheels The young man in question has misplaced your details Regards
  5. OK, so I'm vacillating between different options - sell and upgrading to dual suspension, keep and upgrade to dual suspension or do some upgrades on my hardtail. Very briefly, the idea of upgrading to DS came went I entered the W2W for later in the year, pretty sure it will be a more comfortable ride. Whilst I'm happily reveling in the chaos that is the interwebs, reading every thread/article/piece of info I can get my hands on, participating in other threads about the subject here on The Hub, changing opinion every 5 minutes and sweating over the options...all in anticipation of another purchase (yeah, I'm every marketer's dream)... ...maybe a good option is to spend money on my existing bike to soften it up somewhat? 6. Hi All, What options are you aware of in SA for 29" rims that have 28 spoke hole (I'm looking what options are available after a face plant.) 400-450g range for XC race use Existing rim is 604 ERD and the same rim is not available from Scott/Probike currently (Syncros XR2.0 on a Scale 910) - ideally I would like to reuse spokes (per scott site, DT Aerocomp straightpull with red alloy nipples - which I suspect together cost more than the rim) I looked at Velocity Blunt SL rims as an option, but turns out Coolheat haven't got stock of 28 holes and won't have for sometime. Any other suggestions welcome - Thanks
  7. I notice more and more bike manufacturers are getting involved in trail building and maintenance.Specialized has for a while been involved in Jonkershoek and recently I heard Rocky Mountain getting involved in Contermanskloof and a few other bike parks around SA.(not forgetting the local clubs as well as the guys of Table mnt doing great work). It's great that the bike manufacturers are putting money back into the sport in this way that is a benefit to all.A few weeks ago at Jonkershoek I noticed Scott also involved with the trails at Jonkershoek so a big up to all these guys.Carry on with the good work.
  8. Hi Hubbers So I started cycling beginning of the year and progressively upping my km's and technical riding. I've done a few one-day 40km-ish races also. Fitness and technical skills improving rapidly. Age: almost 40. So, I ride a Scott Scale 910 Carbon 29er HT, which I'm really enjoying. BUT...as I'm doing more trails and and faster speed the bumpiness of many of the rougher single-tracks is starting to become noticeable. Bearable, but noticeable. My question is this, I'm doing the Wine2Whales in November - as a noob, how much will it hurt doing three days on a HT? Will dual suspension make a noticeable difference? If that is the way to go eventually in any case...rather make the switch now? Advice appreciated.
  9. I am looking at buying a new bike the use for trail and single track. What would work better? The 29er or 27.5/650b? I am about 1.7m tall
  10. There are three of us from Mauritius doing the Race to Rhodes this year. Our batch starts on 13 June. We are looking for transport on 12 June from Durban airport to our hotel in Pietermaritzburg (Aintree Lodge in Scottsville) and on 17 June from Rhodes back to Durban airport. Can anyone suggest a shuttle company that we can approach or know of someone preferably with a double cab that can transport us around. We are happy to pay for the transport. Thank you Eddie

  13. Hi everyone, I am looking to buy a carbon hardtail for my son (16 years). Would like to spent not more than 40 K. He is looking at a Scott, but I heard mixed feelings about the after service especially around cracked frames etc. Any advise would help as I do not know much about bikes except for their prices. He is currently riding a Giant XTC. Regards,
  14. Provisional start list for 2014 race The organisers of the 2014 Tour of California published the provisional start list for the race, with 2012 Tour de France winner and multi-time Olympic champion Bradley Wiggins in the starring role for Team Sky. The 2014 edition of the race features a 20km time trial, the mountain finishes on Mount Diablo and Mountain High and the final stage in Thousand Oaks as the decisive stages for the general classification. Among the favorites, along with Wiggins, is last year's podium finisher Janier Acevedo (Garmin-Sharp), who, together with Tom Danielson and Rohan Dennis will attempt to give Garmin-Sharp its first overall victory in the race. The 2013 overall winner, Tejay van Garderen will not be in attendance, but BMC is bringing a strong team with American contender Peter Stetina. The team will also include Thor Hushovd, Taylor Phinney and sprinter Greg Van Avermaet, a podium finisher in nearly every spring classic. In between the critical stages, there are opportunities for the sprinters, and 10-time stage winner Peter Sagan (Cannondale) will be the man to beat. Omega Pharma-Quickstep will be keen to take him on, with both Mark Cavendish and Tom Boonen in attendance. Matt Goss (Orica-GreenEdge), John Degenkolb (Giant-Shimano) and Juan Jose Haedo (Jamis-Hagens Berman) should also make Sagan's past domination a bit more difficult this year. The domestic teams will be on the attack as always, but this time with real opportunities to shake up the overall classification. Last year's Mt. Diablo stage winner Leopold König (Netapp-Endura) will be hard to shake, as will Jamis-Hagens Berman's climbers Daniel Jaramillo and Gregory Brenes. Looking for a dark horse? Try Matthew Lloyd, who has made his comeback from injury with Jelly Belly, or Novo Nordisk's Javier Megias, fresh off a strong ride at the Tour of Turkey. Optum's Carter Jones, hot off his victory in the Tour of the Gila, will be a prime contender to repeat as the mountains classification winner, but will be up against Tour of Turkey mountain winner Marc de Maar. Finally, any one of the Bissell Development team riders could take out the best young rider jersey, in particular Redlands Classic runner-up James Oram. 15. Hi everyone I am planning to buy a Silverback Stride 20 2013/2012 model. How is the bicycle? Will I be able to have years of enjoyment. I will use it to ride around the block and sometimes on gravel road. I also looked at the Scott Aspect 60 2013 model. My price range is R3000-R4000 and second hand R2000 +- is it reasonable? Regards Kevin

  17. Hi Guys, My buddy's bikes were stolen at his residence today in Durbanville. Brand new 2014 Black Giant Trance X2 27.5 Size M 2013 red and black Scott Spark 960 29er with SPD pedals, also medium. Pic attached of the Giant, no pic of the Scott unfortunately. please contact me if you see these bikes. Thanks
  18. I'm in the market for a new 29" full suspension bike & I've narrowed down my choice down to the 2014 Scott Spark 940 & the Giant Anthem X1? I'm 104kg, 184cm & am a roadie wanting to do some mtb, doing trails, logging tracks, non-technical stuff, distances averaging 50 - 100km's. I'm asking hubbers out there what there views are on the two bikes & what you reckon would suit me most. Your input would be appreciated.
  19. Hi Hubbers Take a look at the pics. This is my Scott Shoes that's about 16 months old and as you can see in very good condition. I only use them for racing. At Clarens the other day I felt something wrong with my left shoe cleat. After inspection I found this crack at the bottom. Now the question is, is it normal for shoes to do this or must I try and contact someone from Scott S.A? Cause surely if these shoes can only go 1500km, then it is better to go and buy better quality shoes?
  20. Hi Hubbers! I have gotten into cycling, specifically mountain biking, over the past year. At the moment I have two bikes, a 26er hard-tail and a 29er dual-suspension. I have also spent a lot of time on a hard-tail 29er which is a friend of mines. As per the title I weigh +-100kg's, 6ft2, with not much body fat. I live in Cape Town and do most of my riding on Table Mountain with the dual-sus 29er. When I am in other provinces I use the 26er and hard-tail 29er respectively. What I notice is that my worst rides from a struggling with getting up hills point of view and just getting around in general are on the dual-sus 29er. I don't know if it is just because it is much heavier than the hard-tails or if it is just not setup correctly (although I was fitted on the bike), but I really don't enjoy my riding when I ride with the dual-sus 29er. To give you an example, while in Durban I had the pleasure of riding at Holla Trails, the yellow route (48km's) on a hard-tail 29er and it was an absolute pleasure. Back home in the Cape I often cycle to the blockhouse on Table Mountain +-20km, and I also took part in the Xterra in Grabouw which was a difficult 28km's but it felt like murder on the dual-sus 29er, and the blockhouse ride sucks until I start the descent. At the moment the thoughts going through my head are sell the dual-suspension and move to a hard-tail. Carrying 100kg's around is already difficult as it is, am I being foolish trying to do it on a heavier dual-suspension bike? The type of riding I do is recreational, table mountain, the odd off-road triathlon and I am hoping to do some stage races next year like sani2c. Having said that could it be that I need more experience on the dual-suspension, my legs need to get stronger, the setup needs to be looked at? All of which I am going to do regardless before making a decision. I find that it feels like I am riding quite low even with the suspension locked out and my pedals often make contact with objects, which when on a hard-tail, would normally not happen unless the pedals are vertical when going over an obstacle. I climb hills like a demon on a hard-tail and like a rookie on the dual-sus. I would just like some insight from experienced riders like yourself, perhaps this is a normal learning curve. The 29er is a Scott Spark 940. Thanks! milo
  21. Hi there I have a scott cr1 comp full carbon 2011 large frame to swop for mtb xl frame
  22. Hi all You have probably seen the news articel in the Cape Argus today about the mugging on Sunday morning. My stolen bike is a Scott Addict R3, Zipp 303 non dimple wheels, FSA carbon crank, SRAM red, FIZIK saddle, Thompson seat post, Ritchie Handle bar, etc. Would reaaly appreciate some feedback. I am offering a reward to the recovery of the bike. Please help. Abbas 0827861902
  23. A mate of mines bike was stolen please keep a look out!! See below mail from him! Can you please put the word out. I had a high end mtb that was stolen on Saturday (see details below) and I’m desperately trying to get it back. It’s a very unique bike and you won’t find many of them. Please can you help by forwarding to everyone you know. On Saturday 26th April someone stole my mtb off the back of a Thule bike rack that it was locked on to. It happened in the mall in Glena Marais shopping centre where Finish Line Cycles is and security miraculously never saw anything despite being less than 20 meters away. The bike is a Scott Scale SL 900. The entire bike is matt black with an XX1 groupset, Rockshox fork, carbon Syncross wheels and finishing kit. Non standard items are black ESI grips and Geax Sagaro tubeless tyres. It has a small white tipex marking on the seat pin where it goes into the frame and also on the saddle rails from when the bike was fitted for me. There are small scratches on the inside of the rear triangle caused by a piece of wire that got stuck in the wheel a while ago. Bike is a medium and 2013 model in excellent nick. Please look out for it cos it's very rare and worth about R80k and I’m not insured. Happy to pay a reward. Richard 0768133326
