  8. Hi Everyone, Needing some help please with my drive train. __________________________________ Firstly What I Have: CRANKSET: Custom SRAM S-1250, 7050 alloy arms, 10-speed XC double, PF30 spindle, 175mm FRONT DERAILLEUR: SRAM X7, 10-speed, 34.9mm clamp, top pull REAR DERAILLEUR: Shimano XT Shadow Plus, 10-speed, SGS long cage SHIFT LEVERS: Shimano SLX, 10-speed, trigger CASSETTE: SRAM PG-1030, 10-speed, 11-36 CHAIN: SRAM PC 1031, 10-speed, PowerLink _______________________________________ Now My Problems: - Bad Chain Slap, with clutch on and off... - Keep dropping the chain off the big front ring, I have tuned it and had the shop tune it, even lowering the mount a touch but still after about 20km of riding the problem starts up again.. - Sometimes when standing to power up a small climb the back gears would skip up one and then back down, mainly on the smaller cassette gears... On the stand the gears shift perfectly even on the trail its perfect, just when I stand up to power up a short hill it would jump every now and then. Limit screws are set and tension on cable is great for fast and smooth shifting. - This weekend my chain kept hoping off the bottom jockey free wheel of the Rear Derailleur jamming it between the cage and the free wheel. When I took it apart nothing seemed to be wrong despite seeing it wobble and throw the chain off while on the trail and stopping to unjam it. - Lastly the chain seems to have a bad flex in it, but since the beginning. Its been measured and not worn to the point of replacing it _________________________________________________ Bike is about 3-4 months old, done about 850kms and bought it brand new so first owner. I have never been a Shimano fan, none of the derailleurs I have had worked great and also been fussy. I am thinking of replacing it with a SRAM X9 type 2, most likely a medium cage since is a 2X10 setup and perhaps a new chain However would this help solve the problems I am having or must I check somewhere else for the cause of these problems before spending the money? Thanks in advance for your help, looking forward to your feedback. Kind Regards, Tim
  9. Hi there, I need some advise regarding derailleur wheels. I bought my bike with KCNC wheels which I like. At the Dullstroom event the chain came off the bottom wheel and damaged my inner cage. The mechanic that serviced my bike tells me that the KCNC wheels are rubbish and he suggest I put the normal SRAM wheels when I replace the inner cage. What do you guys think. Cheers
  10. Im not trying to stir, but I was wondering what dirty Hubbers ride with. I currently run an XT chain with my 9x SRAM setup.
  11. I find the chain on my epic comp carbon tends to come off when changing to lower crank-24T? It is not coming off during the change down but when on the lower cog. There is a hell of a lot of slack when not pedalling? Do i remove a link or what? I did replace my Sram X9 long cage rear derailleur with a Sram XX medium cage rear derailleur.Would this change the set up? Do i need a chain tensioner or is this slack normal? My set up is: XO twistshifters 2x10 crankset 24T-38T Sram X7 front derailleur Sram XX 2x10 spd rear derailleur cassette-11-36 10spd chain(not sure on the linkage) Please advice through experience or it'll just be guessing

  13. Can anyone explain to me how to remove the Sram X7/X9 BB30 crank from the frame? From what I understand, the non-drive side arm needs to be removed first but I have no idea how. The 10mm Allen key slot has a warning that states "Do not remove" and I am also not sure which way the nut should turn? Can anyone give me a guide on removing it as well as if special tools are needed. thanks
  14. I've finally decided to change the avid brakes on my Spec epic 29er with XT. Chainreaction has a great special at the moment. There are however a few options to order which I need advice on: -front hose length 950mm or 1000mm? -rear hose length 1500mm or 1700mm? -the levers are either A spec or B spec - which do I need. The bike has SRAM X9 shifters -will the avid rotors work or do I need XT rotors? Thanks

  16. Hi hubbers! I am quite new to the sport of mountain biking and I have done the Nissan Trailseeker 45km half marathons last year. I am doing lots of cross training and riding the spruit in JHB. My question is what do I need to be doing to ride the Joberg2C? I know that is quite a lofty goal but it looks like an epic ride! I have also noticed that most of the people in the YouTube videos have full suspension bikes. I am riding a hard tail Vida1 with a SRAM X0 groupset. Would the bike be up to it?

  18. I am keen to fit SRAM XX1 to my bike, Which outlet would be the cheapest place to source this from?? Putting a list together on Chain Reaction using a twistgrip and a XO1 cassette I get a figure of £719.44 = +-R12806. This obviously excludes freight and SARS share.
  19. Hi Guys, Please keep your eyes peeled for my 2 racing bikes that were stolen from my car on Thursday 23rd Jan. I had been to a number of meetings through the afternoon covering the Post Office Centre, Illovo ; Thrupps , Illovo ; Sportron House, Bryanston ; Sandton Medi Clinic and Nicole Way Centre. Only on leaving Nicole way centre late int he afternoon afetr a hectic day I realised my Trek bike was no longer on the back seat and then also realised my resprayed black " Qhubeka" Cervelo was also no longer in the boot I'm engaging the various security companies to assist with teh CCTV footage , who are all being fairly helpful. The honest truth is whilst I only realised on leaving Nicoleway, this could have happened earlier int he afternoon. It appears I've been a victim of some brazen remote jamming allowing the thieves to access my car without raising alarm or concern. These guys must have been disturbed as they amazingly left 1 bike behind in the boot. They would have also only carried the bikes away as the wheels were off. My Thule pull along was also taken with my MTN Qhubeka team kit including sidi and bont shoes, 2 pairs speed play pedals and cleats ( i had been to a bike fitting earlier in the morning with Activeworx) I've attached pic's the bikes which you'd agree are pretty unique. The spec's are as follows: BIKE 1 : 60cm Team MTN Qhuebeka Trek Madone 7 SRAM Red groupset Zipp 404 tubbie wheels with bontrager tubbies Bontrager XXX carbon 13cm stem Bontrage Alu 44cm 9 double layer black bar tape Dura Ace SRM VI wireless with black display unit Bontrager black saddle Black Elite race bottle cages BIKE 2 : 58cm Black "Qhubeka" resprayed Cervelo Carbon Soloist SRM Red groupset including carbon cranks ( note bottom bracket is Dura Ace as needed to changed) 3T Carbon H/bar 44cm 3T Carbon 13cm Stem Sella Italia saddle - Turbomatic white 3T Alu clincher rotunda wheels ( 1 x broken spoken from morning ride Black Elite race bottle cages If anyone see's these unique beauties of mine or is offered them or as arts of them please contact me on 083 7952220 or james@qhubeka.org Whilst bikes are replacing able the sentimental value I have on them is greater. Thank you for time in reading this, please share accordingly and my fingers are crossed something turns up Kind Regards, James

  24. Hi Hubbers, I am finding it very hard to decide what bike to buy. It is finally time to let my Anthem 26er go and get a Anthem 29er. 25. My son has a 2013 Spez Hardrock sport 9spd with the basic shimano components. I want to convert it to a twist shifter. Firstly:Can i put a Sram X9 derailleur(initially off my 10 spd bike)on a 9 spd ? Secondly:Can i put Sram XO 9spd twist shifters on and leave the shimano crank and front derailleur on? Would the Sram RD and Twisters be compatible with the shimano FD,crank and cassette? Would there be any issues here that would lead me to spending more on this change?
