mikkelz Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Glad to see I'm not the only one who thought the coverage was poor. I was hoping for better as it was on SuperSport this year. Sadly, I've come to expect this quality from the SABC based on previous years broadcasts of the Argus Cycle Tour.
firewolf Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 I said it before - the coverage of local racing is mundane. The commentary is dull. The style is boring. And its very seldom live. On the other hand I can watch 7 hours straight of "The Paul and Phill Show"
gummibear Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 seems like it's time for me to switch to shooting video... Get a EOS-1Ds Mark III SLR Digital Camera and you can shoot both. I saw an advert yesterday that was shot one and was blown away at the HD quality after editing

They are getting worse, how do they manage that?(the fact that the commentators dont know the riders doesnt help either but I dont blame them, with such bad picture quality you cant see who the hell it is anyway!) Seriously, email your complains to DSTV and SS, we are the consumers and must demand better!

Joobs Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 I was watching also and both times they decided to go to an ad break, going up Chappies and then going up near the top of Suikerbossie. Both times you only saw them going down the other side. I was mal at the time. Do they not know that most of the action happens on the hills??? I had to laugh when the commentators or someone said it is because of the mountains that they cannot get the picture from the motor cycles. Then how do they do it in the Tour De France when they are climbing up Alp D'Huez and real mountains like that. And it is all broadcast in HD!!!!

Shebeen Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 i watched it live from the top of chappies to the finish of the men. firstly, nothing wrong with the commentators - they were of course doing their best off the same *** video feed we were seeing.Paul Valstar, Erica Green and a certain Phillip Ligget behind the microphones. the picture quality was pretty bad, and the editing even worse. There's a break going up suikerbossie and 15 riders get away. stander,evans, george, sauser, lill, and a whole bunch of big names throwing their name in the pot. When last did we not have a bunch finish at the race? We then go to a 3min ad break at this crucial time, before even summiting - and not just an ad break, one of those long extended supersport promo ones, y'know the "here's what we have in stall for you to watch in april ones" AND then when they came back to scenes at simonstown! when we get back to the front of the race, they are getting reeled in but we missed some good footage for sure. and ja, the finish was terrible. no camera looking back at the finish straightno camera with a side on view either. phil admitted that he pretty much guessed tyler day as the winner initially!

It is outsourced to another media company! ..so i guess the same company that did TOSA for them.. b.t.w before the start while i was getting ready by the car , they came to interview me, and there was no Supersport branding anywhere too.

The responsibility sits with whomever the broadcaster is providing the signal. Regardless of who films.You'll find a lot of broadcasters all over the world outsource camera work.
