Hi all

I've been wondering about this for some time.... which are best?

All things equal offcourse... meaning: comparing apples with apples.

eg: Top shimano vs Top avid vs Top magura

Not going to compare XTR brakes with Juicy 3.0

Please comment as well....

I had Juicy on my previous bike, seemed to fade.... not that potent stopping power which I experienced with Magura (WOW!!!!)

I have Hope tech X2. No more to be said.

Oh well a little teaser then:

I have used them for the past 18 months. Never had to bleed them and they still work brilliantly like the day I bought them. I have used generic pads but the original hope pads seem to last longer. The hope brake sets are a bit pricey but well worth every penny.

Oh and the hope system is super sexy to look at.

Hope, hope, hope ,hope - you get the message.

Shimano XT was the best I ever had.

Rated

1. Shimano XT

2. Formula R1

3. Avid Juicy ultimate - hated these

XT`s felt better than the R1`s - not sure why - but I am sure most people will disagree with me on this but faced with a choice, XT please!

Very keen to try Hope! X2 for Xmas!

Did you try the Formula RX's. The R1's dont have the power like the RX but you are saving loads of weight. the XT is very good but the RX's beat them. R1's for the weenies - still got plenty power, RX's for the stopping power hungry.

Had hopes, rear was terribly spongy, brake pads didnt last long and they squealed - beautiful machining tho.

I have Hope Mono Mini's on my race bike and can't say I've been impressed with them. Looks wise they are killer, but performance wise dissapointing. I know the X2's are in a different league but from what I hear Formula is the way to go.

the avid option is misleading, as it comprises juicys, elixirs and codes. I presume the latter doesnt count for XC purposes, but of the former two..elixir's win hands down. Brilliant brakes.
