I would like to hear the rationale behind your comment? I'm not being pompous, I'd just like to understand what the difference is that you see.

Been shooting with both IS and non IS lenses for the past about 15 years.  And a image shot at low light with an IS lense are just better and wild life photo's as well at full midday sun.  There is a huge difference.   Check the IS version for example the 70 - 200 f4 vs the 70 - 200 f4 IS version.  It costs a crap load more on the IS, but the image quality is just way better.

And not to mention video.  If you shoot with a VSLR you get amazing results.

Francois, it really comes down to shooting technique and lighting conditions.  Yes IS will help with a stop or 2 , but not alot more.

And I don't agree with the statement about it being better during the day. I used the Canon 400l 5.6 for some years and it didn't have IS, got some of my best bird and wildlife images with that. Now with the Sigma 150-600, I shoot with the IS off as I find it slows down the tracking ability of the lens. Same with Canon 70-200 f2.8 mk2.

You see I shake like a little girl at a Justin Bieber show...

Was reminded by a young friend who is studying photography to do more black & white, especially portraits.....like in the "old days".

Having grown up totally in the digital age, he was blown away when they were taught to do real film developing and printing...."you know in a dark room and everything......man....like wow.....it blew me away.......you old dudes were artists!"

Support... Tripod, Monopod or just a simple bean bag

Yeah I agree, but sometimes there just ain't enough space for all the gear one needs...

Loved spending hours in the dark room! Bleaching out and burning in was the "editing software" back then.

Trying out my new Canon EFS 10 - 18 mm lens. Rhodes Memorial sunrise Friday Morning!

What's your opinion so far of the lens? Also seriously considering getting one. Reading really good things about it.

It's early days still, but this far I'm impressed. I'll post some more pictures as I try it out. I've got some time off the hamster wheel coming up in July and I'll give it a proper workout then. At the moment my feeling is that it is a great landscape lense and very good value for money. It is plastic, so quite light, which is nice, but then obviously not as hard wearing as a metal framed one. Having said that, it feels quite sturdy.

A few from Comrades day. My attempt at this kind of photography. I think I need to invest in a better lens and get more practice.http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/bb417/Fruitloop80/DSC_0290aa_zpsitzbiotq.jpghttp://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/bb417/Fruitloop80/DSC_0361a_zpsq7bo4ojs.jpghttp://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/bb417/Fruitloop80/DSC_0411a_zpsphh1nbcz.jpghttp://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/bb417/Fruitloop80/DSC_0412a_zpsgop0jgm7.jpg
