hardcore question - what is the performance and weight difference between chorus and record?

wa dilbert?

Had both.

No performance difference.  Shifting is the same.  Weight and Bling difference.

I've had an ancient 2nd hand 8 spd Chorus groupy and then got a new Ultegra groupset when i crashed my first Orbea as i needed to upgrade to 10spd...

Even comparing a 19-foetsek model campy and a 2000-something Shimano (both just below the top of the range model) i still like Campy best.

Nellie, you know you can change your 8 speed campy brifters to 9 or 10 speed, with only a change of internals?

with shimano you have to change the complete brifters.

won the Tour de France

And I'm never going to win one either although SRAM may yet "win" a TDF one day. Still unsure what me winning the TDF has got to do with groupsets but there you have it....

YOu use number of Tour de france wins to differentiate quality of the groupsets..

Well if you're never going to win the tour de france then why does it matter to have parts that have won it??!

Angry

just admit that you like the bling factor, nothing wrong with that. I have Campy cos it's bling, nice to look at. If Tour def rance wins were a criteria then surely Shimano should get the nod? Pointless harping on about previosu wins by Campy cos they don't even make teh stuff tha won their last TdF any more.

Shimano = Performance oriented pragmatists

campagnolo = Sultans of Bling

SRAM = Early adopter technocrats

there you have it.. an even shorter summary

MWNN wonders how the Black Beast will look with full record.....

cool!!! does this mean your Force is for sale??Big%20smileBig%20smile or do you want to swop me for my Chorus?EmbarrassedEmbarrassed

Nope, you assumed I used it differentiate quality. My post was in response to a post saying that some texan had won 7 x TDF using shimano. I merely pointed out that prior to that shimano had never won a TDF and that SRAM had yet to win one.

I've used both and prefer the smaller Campagnolo shifters, so bling is not the deciding factor for me.
