To 'dale owners - How many of you have ever weighed your frame?

I had a CAAD7 that I sold recently and was dissapointed with how heavy it was (1.35kg 60cm frame only, completely stripped), given that at the time I got it, it was their top of range product. My experience seems to be similar to others:

I contacted cannondale a few years back and they replied, but avoided giving an answer to how much the frame should way. They are also delibaratley evasive about it on their website:

"What is the WEIGHT of my bike?

BIKE WEIGHT: Cannondale produces and offers the "best in class" when it comes to bike weight, and stiffness to weight ratio. A bike's weight depends not only on the size of the frame and the specs selected, but the variences inherent within the manufacturing process as well. Calibration of the scale is also a factor in determining specific weight. Although we could give you "average frame weights", we feel this would be misleading. Because we are obsessed as you are about your bike's weight, we implore you to go visit your local Cannondale Dealer to help you determine the specific weight of any bike you may be considering. We know you'll be impressed. "

I know their six13 frames were heavier than the CAAD7, but for the 1st time in recent years they have published a mass of 1050g for their super6 frame (http://gb.cannondale.com/bikes/07/ce/road/supersix/index.html)

My only question is, is it true? (given they impied that the CAAD7 I had was supposed to be 1096g)

Cannondale Frames are HEAVY.  No questions about it!!  Is the Scott, that is about 200g lighter than Cannondale's best frame stiffer?  Hell NO!  Ask Dilbert......he suffers on the climbs!  Approve

For me the frame must be in a weight region where I can build it up to legal weight......which is 6.8 kilos......My Cannondale is sitting at about 7.2 kilos......Can still go 200g lighter on the seat, 200g lighter on the stem, seatpost and handlbars.

Scalpel is busy with a little project where he will bring his Cannondale in on about......I would take a s.w.a.g (Scientific Wild Ass Guess) at......6kg.....maybe less......Not bad for a heavy Cannondale frame (Which is stiff as hell!!)

I still have a CAAD 7 and i was under the impression it was quite light which 1.35kg is not!

I also thought that was quite decent for an Alu frame!

Nope, I disagree with you as well......My 58 cm bike weighs in at 7,6 and in my case to I have about 400 - 700 grams I can shave of it with suttle changesto lighter componets

Dilbert wants to rant: One of the biggest marketing coups in cycling HISTORY!! The whole "Legalize my Cannondale" thing. How many stooges bought 6-13 because they thought they were light?

I'm pretty sure the 2003 Scott CR1 has more lateral BB stiffness than the 6-13, CAAD9, or any other older 'dale. It probably has a harder ride too, on the down side.

System6 is another matter. Very stiff in the BB, I guess more stiff than the Scott. Scott will have better stiffnes vs mass ratio. System6 is very very good frame.

Frames are normally weighed in 54cm or mediums. Anything smaller you score, anything bigger you get penalized. Simoni's "illegal"Cannondale was a 52 if I'm correct.

Ever actually measured the frame to see if you got what you paid for?

Anyone?

I knew this would wind up the 'dale fan club LOLLOLLOL

Quoted sizes varies by maunfacturer, but usually medium size - the super6 @ 1050g I mentioned was actually a 56, which is a medium for a 'flat top' frame.

54cm is normally about medium on a compact frame.

And yes, I'd expect a medium/56cm CAAD7 to be lighter than mine (one was measured at 1294g).

Frame weight is generally never corectly quoted. Often the sub 1kg frames either don't have the headset cups or other bits fitted to the frame and also they seldom have more than a 5yr warranty.

Cannondales typically are weighed as the frameset you buy so that includes the headset cups. But it also comes with a Lifetime warranty..

Stillthey build up into very light bikes and that is all that matters. and they handle superbly
