Bike Insurance

I am with cyclesure and received a review email for my policy, they specifically pointed out that I won't be covered if my bikes stolen from my premises when unattended unless locked to an immovable object. This is way impractical coz all my bikes are in one bedroom so what immovable object am I supposed to chain them to. Its a bit unreasonable and impractical and if they insist on this I will look around for alternative insurance.

Does miway/aforbes/outsurance got anything stupid like this?

I'm with Hollard. No such clause.

We took out an all-in-one package with Hollard and got bike insurance. Best is to speak to a broker and perhaps even review your current insurance. We did that and for less than what we where paying for the Business with Indwe & the Car with First 4 Women, we now have better cover for the business, car, household goods & bicycle and still saving R100 per month.

I'm not punting Hollard but more to review your current insurer / broker.

My brokers were underwritten by Hollard and would not insure my bike in races or for theft while unattended it had to be in a locked garage or locked to an immovable object

I took out insurance from Outsurance.

Yip I heard that!.... angry.gif My story is on one of these threads.blush.gif All I can say is that they replaced a broken Cannondale System Six frame. All I had to do was take it to the LBS to confirm that it was indeed broken and to confirm the Value and it was settled in 3 days. How it broke, on flight with BANGO, going to the Argus!

I fell twice, two separate incidents and within 3 days all my claims were settled.

Maybe they are not the cheapest, I don't know, but I have no hassles with them.smile.gif

Im with cyclesure and have no such clause. Do you have burglar bars on your windows or is there another reason why they would have put this clause in for you. My bike is covered for theft anywhere in the world so long as there is evidence of forced entry.

I am with Outsurance. I put a claim in about 2 weeks back. Within 24 hours my claim was approved, arrangements was made with Cyclelab (Centorion) to purchase a new bike and within 48 hours all was ready for me to pick up the new bike. All for R130 a month. Cost of the new bike R16 000.

That is service from Outsurance and Cyclelab.

Ive got two Merida TFS300's worth R5699-00 each.......

Would you guys say its worth going to cyclesure for insurance or are they only in the market for the Big Rollers?

What would the monthly premium more or less be for the two bikes?

should be about +-R45/month each with an excess of 10% min R1000, full cover - whilst in use as well. You might get it cheaper as well

My full susp Raleigh was stolen off my carrier (they broke the carrier - I had a cable lock) in Midrand and Outsurance didn't pay coz it was not covered on a carrier from an unattended car. Broken Thule and no bike after paying around R100 for 5 or so years.
