The only thing that doesn't add up is that they (the hijackers) were being paid R1000 per bike and then the bikes were going "across to Zim or Moz" Therefore someone over there was paying more than R1000 rand for the bikes. They are certainly not supplying a (poor)local market for personal transport as I'm sure anyone there with the cash to spend probably R3000-R5000 on transport already has a sh!tbox bakkie or klapped out ford escort?

It would be interesting to find out where these bike ultimately end up.

They're much closer to home than you think. I still think that bike shops or cycling distributors are somehow involved. Wouldn't surprise me if the bikes are simply buried somewhere. No one wants the hassle and risk of being caught in possession of stolen goods.

Hi grb285

I understand your concerns and I fully understand your thinking.

The online entry generic page was decided upon to actually give people the confidence that their money is not just going to someone's arb pockets.

We felt it was more secure than most other ways of trying to gather funds/donations.

The money gets used to pay for an investigator, the investigator was found for us by Andy Maters.

The guys name is Henk and he has done a great job in connecting the two Gumbe brothers to around 8 cases, which is keeping them behind bars at this stage.

Andrew Maclean put in a R 10 000.00. contribution.

Andy can be reached on oh -eight- three 255 two four two five.

I agree with you on the terms and conditions as well as perhaps an audit of how the monies is being used.

You are free to speak to cycle events about that.

The police are becoming more helpful than ever, but it's the P.I. who is busy connecting the dots as well as cutting through the police's "red tape" (if I could call it that), otherwise those two skermunkels would have been held on possession only and they would now have been out on bail.

Thank you for your initial consideration and apologies that your concerns have been misconstrued.

Hi Dangle, I really appreciate your response.

WOW! Forgive me if I thought you were spearheading this whole thing. If not, I apologise for assuming so. What is not positive about my post btw? I raised some concerns. Is this not allowed?

Also, Nathrix, please do not assume I'm "one of those people" (whatever that's supposed to mean). You don't know me. Leave your poor attitude out of this.

My questions are very valid, and possibly more people will want to donate if given a bit of information.

What is your connection to this Nathrix?

I don't feel that CycleEvents has provided any decent answer to my questions. At this point, I won't be donating money to this cause. When some proper answers are provided, I'll review my decision.

This reminds me of that Seagull thing..

If everyone can give a 100 bucks or so, there will be a lekker pool of money that can be used to find the blixems with. Well done to Andrew Mc for his 10 gorillas, well done sir

I would't be surprised either. Sales are down, business' are in struggling to make ends meet, anything is possible in a climate like this, especially when our 'leaders' have shown that crime pays.

I'd love to see this huge market in Zim and Moz as well. By the looks of it IF this were the case, we'd be able to go to one race and reclaim all of the bikes. Nope, I think it's far more sinister than that.

After the collusion scandal last year, I've not been able to look at the cycling industry the same.

Guys, if you want an audit done I am more than willing to do this for free if it will ease any concerns regarding the expenditure of the donations.

I will take responsibility for this.

I have unapproved a whole host of posts.

But, ANY mudslinging, or hijacking will NOT be tolerated.

Keep this positive and constructive. If you have to throw mud - do so with a PM.

And yes, I am speaking to you.

Ya, 100 rondt from 1000 individuals would definitely go helluva far.

Register the "charity" on "back a buddy" and maybe some of the guys doing the 94.7 etc mtb races can get sponsored riding it like CHOC does?
