Get a nice loud whistle that you can hang around your neck or on the shoulder of your bag ... this has saved my bacon many a times with pedestrians

A wolf whistle works very well, except if you're around taxis because that's the gaartjie's normal whistle. It is a learned skill, taught myself to do it many years ago as a way to chase goats, but that's another story  :whistling:

Does anyone know of an "air horn" that can take a CO2 bomb? I will strap something like this to my handle bar to warn the "plugged in" pedestrians that I'm approaching. Who knows, it may even work on cars!

Will look for a whistle in the meantime.

you get one that you pump I with a pump. ....Yes it is loud

Yup + 1 for the old wolf whistle.

And since you mentioned goats.....OK, forget about it, I'm too scared to ask! ;)

Last night's commute thought me that taking the ride easy and not constantly trying to get new pb's can actually make a ride much more enjoyable.

So, how is this done?

I have found that every time I tell myself to take it easy that I hit new PR's... And obviously still stuffed afterwards.

There was a crash close to Woodbridge Island this morning and I almost got taken out by a Taxi going through a Stop street as you enter the cycle lane at Paarden Island.

Careful out there guys. Most motorists are idiots and arguing right from wrong isn't going to help you when you're in a hospital bed or worse.

I understand the accident near woodbridge was a cyclist hit by a police combi/taxi thing.

I had to drive for work the last two days, and the way people are driving gives me cold shivers just thinking about it!

Looks Like it was only 6 days driving to work this year with a couple of bus rides thrown in on days I was off the bike.

That's an amazing year! I think I'll target as few days as possible next year. Time to decline all late meetings!

I spoke to another guy on the way in. He overtook me. He says he was moving around so all good. It doesn't help to argue the merits of who's right or wrong in these situations. On a bike you're coming second no matter what. I will definitely treat those road crossings with a little more respect in the future.

On the whole I'm loving those cycle lanes. Yesterday i did a little ride to Big Bay. Rode home and took the internal combustion bike out for a burn till sunset. So much fun.

Well done on the commuting mate.

Was the other guy on a yellow roadie bike?

Working till 20:00 in the evening and cycling from town till Parow at that hour is stupid and irresponsible. What was i thinking?

The cycle lanes are dark had to ride on the bus lane as two guys tried the jump on me as I passed the first  MyCiti terminus after the gate entry. Scared sh!teless I got to pedaling, out of breath, legs burning and fear being my only inspiration. First attempt and never again by myself.

Needless to say the wind was no help either
