how are they with kids?

(i have plans in the pipeline *cough*)

Just don't think you will be having kids too soon. Both of them have alternative nicknames namely Durex, and Yaz.....there's no sleeping in with this lot doing battle every day for possession of the rug....

Yup - we had 2 home visits. One before we adopted, and then another follow-up a month after. There will be another one after 3 months too. They are pretty strict.

i like South african breeds

I know the Boerboel and Ridgeback quite well... very good temperaments...

This is Wiki's take on the Africanis

The Africanis is well disposed without being obtrusive: a friendly dog showing watchful territorial behaviour. The breed is independent and territorial, but highly trainable. They can however, become grumpy as they grow older, and may also become quite difficult when kept with other dogs in a pack.

How are they a guard dogs?

Let me put it to you this way. I was staying in Pinetown at the time and we lived in a house with fairly average burglar bars. I woke one morning to hear my sister scream with a african vaselined up sliding through the burglars. Opening my bedroom door and the dog went nuts on him. Good few chunks of flesh were missing from him. The minute the little fellow was off our property she turned around and came back as if nothing had happened.

And to say that they get grumpy as they get older. I think its important that they are treated as elderly dogs. They are no more grumpy than any other breed. German Shepards are also known to get grumpy. Treat them like old dogs and they will be fine. you cant expect a 10 year old dog to be fine with your toddler pulling hair and jumping on them all the time.

My Pekingese bitch girl (how can I call my baby that  ) will be going in to be sterilised next Friday 13 June 2014. At least she will be at home with us over the long weekend to recuperate.

Our dog spottie at the office kept staring at the heater wandering why it's not on.

I often wonder how dogs and cats don't cook themselves cause they'll sit there for hours and when you touch them they're super hot.

Oh the life of a well loved dog ;)
