CL has made adjustments to my bike and fitted new wheel bearings in the front wheel for free, they also set the gears on my GF's bike

Cajees tried to bend me over with no lube. They wanted R2000.00 to trade in a R800.00 unused crank for a R1400.00 crank and it was them that told me the bike came with full SLX but the crank was actually Deore

I rather buy at CL, but if I want a complete bike or quite a few spares I will go to Westdene

Flaying the dead horse agian because you did not check up your purchase yourself

The old The good, the bad and the ugly post. Will every CRC, CWC, Cyclelab, Cajees....LBS (insert name) customer be happy.

Very much doubt it.

Most CRC customers are very happy

I admit to been happy

But there have been posts where they were not the cheapest and others receiving wrong items in the post.

And soon you'll be able to complain about CRC and CWC in the same posts! <_<

I went to look at a road wheelset and cyclelab....some 16 year old asked if I needed help....he tried to sell me a 29er wheelset and even when I told them these are for mtb he was adamant they were for road. I asked him to go confirm with his supervisor, needless to say the kid was "taken off the account" so to speak.

I normally use Cycle LAb but as I was shopping close to Cajees Fourwars, I thought I would stop in last Saturday.

I wanted a new battery for my spedo which had gone flat.

Cajees put in a new battery for R30 which I thought was ok.

But then i noticed that my distance reading was not working and asked them to help while I was paying.

They took the bike into the back and the mechanic later came out.

The one shop assistant said that my magnet was faulty on the front wheel and that they had to change it and the cost would be R60.

I thought that was ok even though i found it weird that it was picking up how fast the bike was going.

I went to test it outside and i still had the same problem (it would pick up the speed but not the distance).

I went back inside to tell them the problem again and noticed that I still had the same magnet on my bike despite them charging me for a new one and telling me that they had changed it.

I flipped out!

But anyways to cut along story short they managed to get my spedo working and managed to screw me at the same time.

Im not worried about R60 but I am worried how they blatently lie.

I have never ever experienced that at Cycle Lab.

cajees sold my friend some mtb shoes and then fitted the cleats for him. he asked me to have a look because he had trouble disengaging. to my utter shock they had fitted the cleats upside down, which made it extremely hard to disengage (if not really dangerous).

then, fast forward a couple of weeks. riding on the spruit i come across a guy lying on his back like a tortoise, still clipped into his bike. i help him up and take a look at his cleats which he says engage really difficultly, and disengage even harder.

i immediately notice that the cleats are back-to-front.

when asked who's "handywork" this was, i knew the answer before the reply came....you guessed it, cajees.

I find it very disturbing how the young "salesman" get the blame for everything !! It is obvious that most of you don't realise how difficult it is for these kids to find a job and some assholes think it is nice to see how many of them you can get fired because you are such a clever wise-ass . Why don't you as the CLEVER customer show them the error in their ways and also give them the opportunity to learn something new every day . Oh wait now I remember , we are the customer and can be as arrogant and clever as we want to be because we got the bucks ?? Shame .

good point!

my neighbours' kid works at cycle lab in fourways. his mom is a a single parent without a car, they share a one bedroom flat that's barely big enough for one person. her son is working is his arse off to save up enough money to buy a car by his 18th birthday so he can drive his mom around.

his keenness to work makes up for his perceived lack of knowledge.

+1. I find Hubbers are generally very keen to share their knowledge on the forums, so why not help a youngster at the lbs? I fully believe that the stores should train their staff adequately, but a little advise from the customer could mean the youngster gaining confidence and learning at the same time.

At the same time if the LBS says your bike has ultegra everything, surely you visually confirm this at the same time. If a car salesman says your car has satnav, electric windows and a sunroof, you dont wait to go home before deciding to check if it is there.

If you are referring to me - They were busy locking up the shop when they handed the bike to me so I took it out and loaded it, noticed the crank was wrong as soon as I unloaded it at home. Also, I said I wanted full SLX and specifically said I am not interested in Deore.

yes but ... salespeople should have good product knowledge, these lighties should at least be seconding someone who knows the ropes, until they are on top of their game. During a past visit to CL I got seriously irritated trying to explain to such what I needed, do0d was clueless, eventually just had a looked around myself, not good for the shop.

I used to be a loyal CL shopper, but recently Northcliff cycles get my business.

1. They are closer to home

2. Very friendly and knowledgable staff

3. Best workshop service I have had in JHB. (And my bike has done the rounds)...

Sure, they aren't the cheapest, but they get my vote

Oh yes, and the goose behind the counter looks like Liv Tyler!
