How to order a Scott bike - and actually receive it.

Hallo IBruegge

Thank you for this mail. Let me assure you that you are not the only client in SA that is disappointing in not getting his or her Scott bike. We get information from the local rep when certain bikes will arrive in SA. [ That is with other brands such as Cannondale ect as well] We then place our orders and if possible pre sell them to our clients.

We normally take a dep as well, unless the client does not want to give us a deposit. The next is we will get a mail from Scott telling us when the specific models will be in SA and believe me Scott is on the ball with this information. They always keep us informed about which model is coming when.

We have ordered 29er and were told that it would be here as promised. Believe me the competition is so strong out there between the different wholesalers and dealers that I can assure you that all of them is upset if the bikes does not arrive as promised from abroad. They are also only in the hands of the component suppliers.

We have the same problem with 29ners from Cannondale. Bikes that would have been here end of September has been moved to end October and yesterday we heard that it has now been moved back to December.

I ca only apologize for not getting you your bike but we are only in the hands of the wholesaler who is depending on someone else again.

Hope that you will understand our frustrations as well.

Thanks for the reply, appreciated - however:

I literally begged your sales staff to issue the full invoice for full prepayment (as the insurance wanted to pay for the bike) - it was not me who didn't want to pay a deposit. You could have had the money in the bank at the point of ordering - even though, learning now how the bike industry seems to work, it wouldn't have made any difference to the waiting period or how your supplier treated my order.

Your reply however is just an apology - what I still don't understand is how LBS just accept this? What is your benefit of having a massive Scott stand, if this is how ProBike and at the end of the day Scott treat you? At what point do you tell Probike that happy clients are more important to you than a certain brand on your floor? At the end of the day, the pressure must come from the LBS - reading the other comments here, "back orders" seem to be the common way and my experience has been shared by many.

I do appreciate however, that you make the effort in this forum.

Boet its a 2012 bike and its still only 2011, get over it. Buy another bike. A person cant always get what you want. If you had paid the deposit to the bike shop you would of even been more pissed off. Take your money and go buy what you can get or wait for the stock.

Yeah, I am at that point - but, why would they take my order, repeat over several weeks that there is no problem etc - I would have no issue, if they tell you from the start when it is available and when not. Easy as that. Don't confirm an order if you can't commit to the delivery date. (and don't invent your own delivery date...).

Let me close this chat from our side. We as one of the biggest Scott dealers in SA do our best to get the product in time. What can we do if Scott SA [ Probike } do not get their order as promised from overseas ? What pressure can we put on them? Cancel our order? That will not help us at all nor will it help you. They are only in the hands of the supplier abroad and so is Cannondale and some other brands as well.

We do allot of imports from abroad and sometimes our orders get postponed for weeks just saying sorry products delayed.

Now the good news. Please pop in at our shop and I will buy you a nice cup of coffee from our new Coffee Republic coffee shop that is opening tomorrow. I am sure that you will understand it better after chatting to me personally.

There seems to be a problem world wide for bike parts and spares at the moment and almost all bike manufacturers are struggling to keep up.

This is not just a Scott problem...try getting a 2012 Cannondale ;)

Speaking to a couple of friends overseas they have also had their shipment dates from Cannondale changed - Cannondale like some of the other manufactures cannot keep up with demand for especially 29ers (which will get the anti 29ers excited) so its just not a South African problem.

Would that mean I might struggle to get my Cannondale in Feb, after I asked for the delivery to be pushed back to Feb, and not Dec? :(

Not in SA though...

Hi,

Give Willie a call at WE bike, I bought a Scott RC 29/pro frame from him in Jan 2011, very nice frame, sure you can get sorted.

Not playing shops up against each other. I spend where I can get what I need at the best price.

Hope you can sorted

Cheers
