I would definitely no say that he was our very own Tendulkar I personally don't believe he'll be remembered as one of SA's legends of Cricket. Below is a list of players who I believe will be remembered for a long long time.

Old Players

=============

Hansie Cronje

Gary Kirsten

Makaya Ntini

Alan Donald

Shaun Pollock

King Kallis

Current Players

==============

Graeme Smith

Dale Steyn

Hashim Amla

Great list Mr Winter! I would like to add one name, perhaps he did not have the technique either batting or bowling, and perhaps his stats don't show him to be one of the greats especially in the test arena, but from a sheer entertainment aspect and his ability to change the course of a match within an over, batting or bowling one Lance Zulu Klusener.

Zulu! He must be on the odi list, for sure, good call Sniffie.He almost won the 1999 world cup on his own, plus rescued many odi games for us.

Too bad his career came to an early end / started to slide because he did not get along with Smith. That was in the early days of Smith's captaincy and Smith was a real arrogant ass back then. (Im glad he toned he attitude down a lot since then)

I would have loved to see what Zulu could do in T20.

Perception is a strange thing. Klusener had an average of 41 and a strike rate of 89 with 50 not outs. Decent in today's terms but not outstanding. Amla has an ODI average of 53 and a strike rate of 90 and 6 not outs. AB de Villiers averages 49 with a strike rate of 93.

Klusener could hit a long ball, bowled decently and was there at the end quite often, but for me is not in the same class as Amla, De Villiers etc. i put him in the very good category along with Herchelle Gibbs, Dave Richardson, Fanie De Villiers, Peter Kirsten and Ntini.

Hope the Aussies don't klap us like they klapped England.

There is big sickness in the England Team. Would love to know the real reason why Swann packed it up.

I have to agree with you.

With all due respect: K@k, man! :D

Klusener almost always batted far down the line with few overs and wickets remaining to cover a big run backlog.

You can't compare his avg to those of opening batsmen. Disingenuous.

And he was also handy as a bowler.

Klusener is a LEGEND!

Will always hate Smith for being such a tjop and forcing Klusener out of the squad.

I agree with the pigdog. Its never easy to compare players current and past. Klusner played when there were less power plays / fielding restrictions, and only 1 ball for 50 overs, and before t20 and the impact it had on the game existed.

He was the best finisher in ODI cricket at his peak, which is why I would put him on the list. He has a better batting average and strike rate than Hansie, and better bowling stats. I would put him in before Hansie.

That's not why you shouldn't like Smith, dislike him because he didn't come home with his team after the WC disaster but chose to go to his GF

Watching England / Aussie last test now. The Aussies never give up. They were 100/5 now 225/5. Ah and there Haddin loses his wicket make it 225/6.

Anyway back to my point. I fear Mitchell Johnson in the upcoming series.

The oke is brilliant. And he can bat as well.

Another reason why I don't like Smith.

I know Burger as a top cricketer at varisty before moving to rugga. I think Tiaan Liebenberg is also alright.

I remember them being quite good when the stormers played the cobras
