New Zealand's batting not that great on big grounds it seams.  They did not think to work the ball for 2s on that big ground, instead, they just wanted to moer them balls out the ground, which is not so easy on big grounds.

What a chase! Well played WI, and that without Gayle having to do the graft.

Great batting by Charles, Simmons and Russell. One can only wonder why these guys aren't playing tests for them. Would strengthen their team a fair bit I reckon.

It has been suggested by some very knowledgable people that the profile for a T20 and Test player are worlds apart, and that too much intersection by the 2 respective teams cause only problems.  This is especially evident in the bowling attack, and the type of bowling required.

While I do agree with that in general I am also firmly of the belief that if a player is willing to make the adjustment and work on his skills then it shouldn't be impossible for him to be able to become a test player, a la David Warner.

Yes, I am all for a player to become either one, but I believe that said player must make a choice which format he will be focusing on.  T20 has changed a lot in the past 2 years as players figure out which recipe works.

I believe that if a player specialise in one format, that it leaves a place for more players in the national squads, and also prevents the overworking of certain players.

A great example is just how well the WI are doing in T20, while they are poor in the Tests.

You will obviously get players that adapt very well in all formats, but they should make up a very small core of the teams that represent each format.

Well said. I agree. Thing is I'd be lying if I didn't say that I would prefer to see the Windies being a test force again. Sadly though most of the Windies' best choose the shorter formats because of the board. Get the administration to get their act together and perhaps we'll have them back as a test force. Not sure we will ever see that though.

A lesson SA can learn is looking at the Windies and how they very rarely have bowlers bowling more than 1 over spells, Bravo excluded. He is just a machine!!!! Best bowler of the tournament for me, the way he disguises that slower ball is amazing.

Very few teams allowed long spells, batters pick up the pace and length and generally the 2nd or 3rd overs are expensive!!

man, what a chase last night by the WIndies...and we forget that Narine is not even in the team.

I'd love to see the WIndies as a test force again, but i don't think we'll see it the way things sit now. All their stars will much rather do their own thing in independant leagues.

I reckon it's a bit hasty to say that the Proteas are on the wrong track. We lost against both teams who made the final, and whilst they weren't close matches they did still make it to the final overs.
