BATTING CUPBOARD:

let's look at the SA A team who played Australia

openers:

Zub Hamza innings 72, 100's 9, ave 51, age 22

Pieter Malan 215/  27   /  46/ 28

TdB  88/ 9/ 46/ 25

Zondo 164/9/31/28

Muthusamy  94/7/34/24

R Second (wk) 157/17/44/28

compare it to Dean Elgar/Markram who are the current proteas players with the most recent FC cricket

Elgar 293/37/44/30

Markram 76/9/47/23

For me we have got quite a few youngsters knocking on the door (we have no shortage of openers and keepers)but we will only know how well they do once in the test team. TdB/Bavuma are playing for a slot, but more will be coming through

from the sunfoil series, for the guys who played more than 5 innings (there was a lot of rain)

Markram tops it, followed by Stiaan v Zyl who played 5 games after the english season and averaged 80. he is of course out the system being a kolpak player

I can't believe this guy is not on the plane Down Under

I don't think CA has come clean. By clearing Boof the chain of guilt from the players to The Administration is broken, no repercussions for those in the nice air-conditioned offices.

The orders from above must have been win at all costs, just don't get caught!

Can someone help me here, In the steve smith press conference smith clearly said many times it was a decision taken by the leadership of the team, how is that now they said only 3 players and nobody else came up with the plan and knew about it.

Lenient let off for the cheaters.  Just in time for the world cup!

Coach is innocent, fast bowlers are innocent!  Two guilty only?

Viva CA, Viva!!!!!!!!!

(......and Hansie got life for cheating and bringing the game into disrepute.)

Unfortunately, thanks to CSA's transformation targets, that is not true. Or rather, it places a seed of doubt in supporters' minds. Because this is the exact scenario that played out:

Bavuma gets injured, De Bruyn has to come in for him. Morkel gets dropped for Ngidi. Ngidi gets injured and Morkel replaces him, so TDB gets dropped for Bavuma who is still not 100% over his niggle it seems. When these sort of selections happen you can't but help wonder if the best 11 players are on the field..

And I like Ngidi. I think once Morkel goes and he gets an extended run he'll get better and better. But do I think he was good enough to replace Morkel? No..

Then sadly you and I need to agree to disagree on this. I actually think CSA has done really good work on the transformation of the team. I genuinely hold all of the current test squad in high regard and have no issues with any of them being there. Selection is a tricky issue that's been made harder by the politicians who don't necessarily see the need for a winning team.

I assume this means the two of them can still make a load of money in the IPL

LG has already pulled the plug on Warner's endorsement

SYDNEY - Multinational electronics company LG has opted not to renew its contract with David Warner following the ball-tampering scandal in South Africa, even as the sacked Australia vice-captain waits to learn his fate from Cricket Australia (CA).

Apparently Sony approached him with a new deal, but he kept pronouncing it as "Sonny" and flew into a fit of rage.

Couple guys there with real potential. Especially Hamza and Muthusamy. I am hoping that they'll be in the runs again next season to help their case along. Ditto for Second and Mulder as well actually.

transformation targets:

we are missing them. BUT a T20i cap counts the same as a Test cap.

they are 'loading' the T20i team accordingly.

don't f around with the test team, pick the best okes full stop.

Yes in theory they said the target is across all 3 formats. But it's not only the T20 team that gets loaded, the ODI team as well and to a lesser extent the test team.

Hmmm... such a difficult and emotional subject this one.. All I'm going to say is that at the end of the day I want the national team picked on merit. Not on skin colour. Not on a ratio of so many of this colour people vs so many of this colour people in SA. We are all South African. Transformation should start at school level. Not picking kids of colour only for school teams, but giving them the resources to play the game on a similar footing as more privileged schools. Thats all. You do that and enough players of colour will come through the system

They did not have time to come up with a better story before the press conference.

Afterwards, they realised the implication and everybody toed the same line.......

All rather silly now isn't it?! Smith gets called off the field during the session so they can all get the story straight before the questions come. Maybe by leadership group, stevo just meant the captaincy pair?! he was pushed to give names at that initial conference and didn't budge.

next move I suppose is WPCC to go through their CCTV records just like in durban. imagine we see starc and hazlewood comparing carborundum sheets?!

I think for a long time the best process is going to be talent getting picked and the kids sent to high schools with cricketing history, infrastructure and coaching. It's a team sport, you can't make it by staying in the gamadoelas (how many world cups would Beast have played in if he stayed in Zim?).

The best way to get new talent, is to widen the talent pool. Rabada and Ngidi who come from totally different backgrounds, will be the sort of heroes that will get young athletic black kids who could be playing soccer rather wanting to bowl faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaast. We could have a scary 80's West Indian attack if CSA do this properly.

but incase you were wondering, there's no white kids in the medium term future

sheesh 5 down.

did note that they zoomed in on the ball, it's only 30 odd overs old but looks like a ball about to replaced at 80 overs. and surprise surprise they are getting it to reverse.

We need to learn what tricks they are doing, because it is not normal.

well well, so it appears David Warner has been using sandpaper on the ball on the field.

David Warner was charged with a breach of Article 2.3.5 of the CA Code of Conduct based on:

(a) development of a plan to attempt to artificially alter the condition of the ball;

(b) instruction to a junior player to carry out a plan to take steps to attempt to artificially alter the condition of the ball using sandpaper;

© provision of advice to a junior player regarding how a ball could be artificially altered including demonstrating how it could be done;

for how long?

does mitchell starc get to keep all his test wickets?
