Points for Quentin - Warner was just being abusive, and then he complains about being beaten on wit.

Can't find the reference now, but I recall one of the Protea players of the early/mid 90's - fairly certain it was Jonty Rhodes telling how the Aussies sledged him by mocking his wife/fiance. But not just the usual banal stuff, they made the effort to find out her name and other actual details about her making it very personal. He was taken off-guard by the sophisticated effort that went into planning their sledging. I am not surprised similar insults would still go around nowadays.

This op-ed by Mark Nicholas is worth a read and quite frankly I agree with the major points of his argument. That he references to great Kiwi captains for whom I have nothing but greatest respect and admiration kinda helps too. The game as a whole needs to step back and remember what cricket should be, a game played hard, fair and with respect for all.

This is another wake-up call for cricket https://es.pn/2Ghri2L

I gotta say- much as I love watching the Aussies squirm it was difficult to watch when Smith broke down when he said "my Dad".

That's said - we haven't got to the bottom of this yet. Too many lies, dodgy statements and "innocent" stepping down....

at least he didn't blame the devil... :whistling:

We have all stuffed up in our lives.

Lot of respect for the captain to take it on the chin and take full responsibility..and yes for not blaming other people or the

I can understand guys cheating, guys crying, everybody apologising to their team mates, fellow Aussies, their government, their families for having got caught, but (unless I have missed it) I have not seen ONE apology from either the players, Cricket Australia officials or Aussie dignitaries to the South African team or public for detracting from the Protea win.

If we win the series it will always be diminished by the behaviour and fallout of their actions. Nobody has had the grace to apologise.

Did one of the guys with the sand paper say sorry to their opponents who they tried to cheat?

I hope behind closed doors they had a chat a handshake and maybe a beer.

Hope you are dreaming.....

Cheaters, dopers are all the same.

Have no sympathy and Smith can cry as much as he likes.

Cry babies and cheaters!

I see the Australian Cricketers Association (ACA) are unhappy with the sanction stating they believe its too harsh

running scared much. frankly, the 'outlandish' penalty meted out to those directly involved, is as direct result of the national shame, which implies there's political pressure that came to bear on the situation> turnbull's statement on the matter sounded like a lot of personal conviction, which I would've been surprised didn't turn into action on behalf of CA.

In in a few heavy blows, Aus as a cricketing nation has recouped the moral high ground they so often led everyone to believe, they alone could hold.

Maybe it gets overturned, maybe it doesn't. but the fact they were willing to beat the crap outta their own countrymen, that takes some serious brassballs.

I hope so.

Maybe at the post match function.

I'm speculating.

Personally I would bet that Smith did so but in private. Most of mates in Aus are painting the picture of a good guy who made a huge mistake. I genuinely feel a bit for him. Not that this makes right the wrong of course but I hope for cricket's sake Smith can get about fixing the damage he has done which he seems keen on.
