Bike looks nice, but...

Disk brakes are always going to be heavier. They may have better stopping power, but do we need better stopping power? Never had a problem stopping my bike, even when I used KCNC callipers.

Ultimately on a road bike it's your skinny tyres that prevent you from stopping quickly, not the brakes.

Why would you need disk brakes on a road bike? maybe to add some flat spots to your tyres? Its also not practical for competitive cycling, would only slow down wheel changes. and the extra weight!!!

I think its stupid personally.

I have a 8km hill close to me,i always make sure that i go down it and not up it.A few times on my road bike i have smelt the rubber burning on my Dura ace pads. The pads lose there grip and then it's like you have no brakes and at 80km/h with tight bends that's not fun.I have never had that problem with my mtb disc brakes.

This would not be for the SA market where the area is mostly flat. ;)

Disk brakes make some sense as you can loose the braking surfaces and associated reinforcing on the wheel rims. This will lead to lighter more aerodynamic rims and has the added advatage that the rims dont get hot during braking.

Tubbies can therefore use a "harder" glue, which improves the rolling resistance. The harder glue tended to get a bit soft and allowed tyres to roll off under hard braking previously.

What races do you do? The crashes I've seen & had with bunch concertinas in the faster rides have been horrific. Old lost city race was famous for sudden bunch squashes. We couldn't stop in time, hit the guy in front and bounced in somersaults over the guys we crashed into.

I’ll buy a set of these

Bring on the brakes! The tyre guys will adapt the tyres to follow suite.

Surely these things will just lock your wheels up more quickly? What's next? Road Bike ABS? tongue.gif

Nothing wrong with that idea at all! ABS on bikes would be amazing.

I think the Ridley idea is much better. Like you all say, how much better do you want to brake.
