I never really paid much attention to their attempt, as Garmin is so dominant. 8 years ago I went through a series of interviews with them and one of my questions was about them getting into wearables like Garmin and their answer was a flat no. I guess things move quickly in the tech world.

Got my eyes on a Fitbit Adidas Ionic at the moment, it's on special at Sportsmans. But then I think, do I need a watch that records running, cycling, weights and swimming, when my main focus is cycling. And that's partly why I gave my TomTom Runner 2 to the missus, because she would make more use of it than I would.

A fully restored Heuer Montreal chronograph.   (before TAG came in and ruined the brand, sorry to above).

But mostly these days just a black Apple Watch 2.

Hehe...you were an Apple watch. Heuer made great watches but Tag added a little class to the brand. I think the combination of the two makes for great looking watches!

Apple watch works very well.  Allows me to leave phone on silent / track runs / and scope out messages when in meetings.

I think the brand went downhill (and pretty much all other watch aficionados) when TAG got involved in the mid 80's.  Not to mention the ETA movements the modern ones use that are owned by SWATCH (hehe, I have about a dozen SWATCH watches too, I regularly wear and add to this collection / fetish).

That said, I currently lust after a Chopard I saw in London, and only own one Omega and one IWC, so technically I'm a rubbish watch person.  Ignore everything I say! hahaha

Don't mind me, I am personally not a fan of smartwatches or mobile phones. I even get annoyed when I feel a need to use my Garmin when cycling. I went cycling without it the other day and didn't miss it one bit.

Swatch

I am also a rubbish watch person so let's have a beer at 6 tonight and drink in honour of each other  ;)

I dont drink booze anymore.  So basically I'm not human anymore, my MTB card must be handed in, and apparently I cannot be trusted.   :(    But I will have a milkshake for you when we're done shuttling for our ride.

Actually forgot my Garmin the other day on my ride and it was great.  Must definitely do that more.

I stand corrected though I still love what Tag brought to the table!

Seiko movements in a Swiss watch...

I kid i kid! I do like some of their newer pieces!

It is the reason so many watch folk hate the brand now!

You should, its a great watch...

I'm getting married in a few weeks, and my fiancee wants to buy my a watch as a present.

As much I'd like a Omega Seamaster, it's not going to happen.

What other brands should I/she be looking at?

I'm thinking in the R10-20k range (maybe a chip-in) from me.

I'm thinking Tissot, Festina etc.

So something that's quality, decent looking ...

Few questions:

  • Do you prefer sports watches or dress watches (I assume sport since you mention the Omega)?
  • Bracelet vs leather strap?
  • Do you have any idea about size, ie would 44mm - 46mm be too big for you or not?

Guess I could have been more specific here...

  • Not too phased on dress/sport - as long as I can wear it with a suit, and then other days with casual dress
  • Preferably leather, but bracelet also ok
  • Size - I'm a big guy, so 42mm and up is ok for me.
