Sylvia's pass in east Jhb and in south Jhb bottom of Kliprivier to top are good rides, but as mentioned in other posts best preparation will be Suikerbosrand

I reckon anything that takes over 50 minutes to go up only is considered a "hill".

I can't wait to resume training and ascend this monster climb. Ave gradient of the tar is 10% so it,s a little steep too.

Obviously not "today's" Tour stage ... think it was from 2009 Tour.

SHEEEEEESH....Mount Ventoux is a B*%@#$, with this comparison; I have a new found respect for tour cyclist.

It shows that what we think are hills are only little bumps.

Saving up for a trip to France to ride up some of the alps for a week, i'm sure it will give me a new perspective of our "hills"

Chappies from Noordhoek (excluding little chappies) is 2.35km, climb of 103m, so average gradient of 4.38% .... lots less than most people think. Remember that its not a constant gradient, steepest bit is 8.1%

Suikerbossie is slightly steeper average 6% for 2.1km (from the traffic lights) and is much more constant than Chappies

Does anyone have a route profile of the course/particularly these sections? The official one doesn't look very accurate?

Thanks

lot's of answers here:

what i don't understand is how this can cost R55m

440m^2 of office space..let's be fancy and go for R20k per square = R8.8m

170m^2 of storage - even at R5k per square = R0.850m

toll booth structure...?R2m?

in total that's all under R12m.

what have i done wrong, why is their cost more than four times above my exhorbitant figures?

Got me there too. I agree it is needed, but looking at the plans I can't see R 55M.

Kind of funny, what you show there is the same profile as dorstberg on meerendal, and we do that with marbles (loose rocks) and some sections has a gradient of 19degrees., with ruts with loose sand, and we do that just for the fun of it not even for excersize.
