Heman, I assume that you are the rider in the standard bank kit? Also started in BL and went to the front twice in the beginning - but soon realised that the organisation of a pace line is not going to work - so I just had a good ride.

I was in Lab colours. I think the TCS rider and another (might have been Standard Bank kit) eventually did most of the 'leading'

With the group yo-yo-ing at the back 5-6 km in , I almost caused a crash.(Did not look at the wheel infront of me)

Sorry to all the okes around me ! it was my mistake and very happy on one came down ! Look at pic attached - Cant belief this tyre lasted the whole race.

At 40-45km there was a crash in the dip and found myself at the back of that fighitng a loosing battle getting back to group.

a VO rider . . . had some problems . . . he came past and I grabbed on but when his team vehicle came to assist him - I could not stay with him) Well done getting back . . . . I think . . .

Stayed with 2 pirates kit okes and blue first accent oke rotating nicely untill a smallish group started to form and stayed to the end.

2h39 and very happy I did not go down in that first stretch.

Once again sorry for the okes around me when I decided to "test" my sliding skills

What an exceptionally well-organised event! The marshalling and road markings were superb and the Road Rangers bike marshalls were their usual brilliant selves. Thank you and well done to Gerald and his team as well as everyone else who made the event what it was.

There ware about 4-5 guys that started in AL with their mate, but were seeded GL!!! This should be taken very seriously by organisers. These idiots almost caused a major crash in AL!!!

Starting ahead of your seeding should have serious consequences!

The event was exceptionally well organised and run, thanks to all involved!

It is a great event, fast but with a bit more to deal with than Emperors. Mervyn Abel has been the guy behind this race for years, co-ordinating the Germiston Wheelers effort; cajoling sponsors (I know, we're one of them) etc etc. The club riders arent allowed to ride the race but are expected to help on the day marshalling and the day before - marking potholes, sweeping intersections. Well done Merv and the Wheelers.

What is done about people who start ahead of their seeded batches?

A few riders have (and more will be DQ'd).

Was picked it up in their start times (I know of one BL - 2:10 for the 103Km, highly unlikely)

I ran some number thorugh Excel (love playing with numbers..)

The early starters per batch:

AL : 28

BL : 38

CL : 50

DL : 24

EL : 12

FL : 7

GL : 2

HL : 5

IL : 6

TL : 1

VA : 0

VB : 2

VC : 0

======

Tot:175 (Excluding %A %B &)

Note: I'm using the published (pre registration) seeding, not sure how many got legitimate re-seedings (although the batch sizes stayed the same....)

Please do not allow early starters to spoil races generally well run!

Grateful for the provisional results being up early. I'm just shocked at how many people start in the wrong(too early) batch. Never imagined the 'problem' to be this big but I'm quite sure you guys will get it sorted :)

Oh... and for the record: I'm one of about 300 who fell back a bunch a more :D

I couldn't reach the starting line. Just before I got to the starting pens my gears broke. Struggled until 7:35 and still couldn't fixed it. Very disappointed I couldn't make the starting line.

From now on I will do test ride when I arrive at the site and not on my way to the starting pens.

On behalf of the organisers, helpers, marshals and everyone else behind the scenes, we'd like to thank you (the Cyclists) for your participating in the race today. Without your support this race would not be the success it is - see you all again in 2013.

If you were one of the unlucky souls that crashed today, hope you have a speedy recovery and get back on the bike sooner than later.

Unfortunately i was one of those that went down at the 45km mark. The different level of the lhs and rhs of the road causing a ridge on the middle line is simple enough to navigate if you see it coming, but when you are 10 riders in on the centre line - its a lottery. it caught 2 of us in AL and then whilst in the ambulance we went back for 2 more guys in later groups that hit the same ridge.

not sure what can be done other than red paint and warnings on the road - can't be filled in like a pothole

I thought the race was very well organised and second the comments above, and the observation of the necessity of motorbikes. It can't be easy marshalling a race with the driver behaviour I saw while waiting for my wife to finish - 4 cars drove down the finish chute ignoring the marshalls - INCLUDING A COMPETITOR'S CAR - a white Audi Q7 with three bikes on the back - FFS!

I was in BL and I saw 4 crashes. Got to the start pen late, therefore at the back. There was some desperately average riding skills on display - causing all four crashes. One guy with a camelbak on changed his line without looking in the first 4km causing all to brake around him, I think "this one's trouble". Sure enough another 5km on and he is on the deck having brought another 3 down with him.

People riding like they drive - spilling across the white line on blind corners/rises then having to jump back across into the pack where there is no room, so everybody has to brake to let them in. The motorbike marshalls should be able to issue 'stop and go's' or DQ for such a basic safety issue.

While I am ranting - take your frikking gel/bar wrappers home with you. Who is going to pick up your non-biodegradable litter? Or are you such a fast rider that those 10gramms mean the difference between first and second (I think not - otherwise you wouldn't be in BL) - and that includes you BL2077.

Can't say I enjoyed the race, per se, as it was so tense after the third crash - my primary objective was to stay out of trouble. Still, pleasantly surprised with my result.
