Wyatt Earp Posted May 29, 2012 Share Dangle ... have you tried the Hope BB's ... as I understand one can replace the bearings easily with "off-the-shelf" bearings from a place like bearing man. I ask this as I am considering one.Have not tried them yet, I have however just changed my cranks form the Truvativ SS crank to the new Shimano XT.I will see how their BB's hold up, if they don't I will then get a Chris KIng. Hey a Chris Bling Bling BB ... nice. They do however use specific bearings again as I understand which one can't get at a place like bearing man. You would have to order a whole bearing kit from them. Then again they have grease ports to purge the BB as and when the rider / mechanic chooses, so I imagine the lifespan should be rather impressive. divernick Posted May 29, 2012 Share You're getting ripped off. Linden Cycles sells KMC BMX chains for R32. My KMC BMX chain cost more cos it was in a Giant branded box.........
divernick Posted June 18, 2013 Share I have just changed my chain at 1% "stretch". KMC Z 8-speed chain. Cost R90. It lasted me 1565km. Not too shabby....That's 5.8 cents per km

BBN Posted June 26, 2013 Share Anyone know how I can tension my chain better?Problem, if I take a link out the chain is too tight and I can't get the wheel off, if I put a link in the chain tug will not go back far enough without taking the locknut off!I can't use the two hole type tugbolt, like Surly, as the frame is carbon and there is no room to push the tugbolt forward as it hits the the frame! BBN Posted June 26, 2013 Share DittoAlready using a halflink chain!Thinking of cutting the front section off one of the double hole tuggbolts and grinding it smooth, this will bring the whole tensioner forward by about 10mm. I assumed you're using a horizontal slot dropout frame.
BBN Posted June 26, 2013 Share Are you using a tensioner? I assumed you're using a horizontal slot dropout frame.Sorry, yes, I have horizontal drop outs and tuggbolts.Everything actually works fine with the lock nuts removed from the tuggbolts but 'it's not the way it should be'........perfectionist,sorry!!! Ryanpmb Posted June 26, 2013 Share Sorry, yes, I have horizontal drop outs and tuggbolts.Hmmm... it really should work with a half link chain... What about duplicating the ratio with a different chain ring and sprocket? Ie: requiring a longer chain (going shorter doesn't look like an option as you're already running a small chain ring).
