Lions Tour Update

https://www.lionsrugby.com/2021/03/23/lions-rugby-2021-tour-update

I am torn. I am so happy they found a way to keep the Tour in SA as planned.

However, some obvious concerns, like: -How much competitive rugby will our boys have been able to play before the tour starts ?

well, luckily a fair few of our players have been playing in europe.

it's not ideal but i think JN and Rassie will have had their eye on this issue for a while and will make the best of it.

I'm not torn at all, a lions tour coming here is win win,

a)there's a chance we actually see something

b)it means SA rugby actually has backbone and clout, and negotiations with joining NH scene will not be one sided (like our cricket okes have had to do with the big 3)

Very true. The side which won the 2019 RWC had plenty of Europe-Based players, thus it makes sense for them to make use of their fitness and game-readiness during this tour as well.

In parallel, SA rugby can continue to drive the local competition scene as much a feasibly possible in the current environment. Game time + TV revenue is important for all the players and franchises.

Big game tonight to decide the 6 Nations.

This is a run-down of the permutations at play. ;)

More importantly, is there no way England can finish 6th?

Who knows, maybe one day when they decide to replace Italy with an actual competitive rugby nation...

Either by: the 6th place finisher playing a promotion relegation match, which will give a team like Georgia a shot at some upsets...

Currently, Italy has just not come to the party

Or, with our SA based Franchises joining the Top 14 at some stage, maybe SA will replace Italy...?

Don’t think SA will replace Italy. It’s too valuable for SARU to keep the franchise teams in Europe and the Bokkies in SANZAAR. If they play their cards right the Bokkies could become the greatest team in the world.
