How can any idiot litter in a nature reserve. I rid there often and carry everything out with me.

No self respect if you can just throw your rubbish away anywhere but in a bin

What's done is done and Gu might or might not take up the suggestion, so let's not bet on that to get back access to the reserve. Is anybody in a position to negotiate on behalf of cyclists, or is it a lost cause at this point?

Its easy, negotiate with your wallet.

Having said that it will only casue more confusion as anyone can litter and then say it was a biodegradably freerange sachet that he threw away.

Don't litter and that is the end of that.

We need to make an example of someone. Lets accuse and convict Seeker of littering and ban him from the hub. Thats a good start.

Untill the OP provides the sauce, we don't even know if we've been banned.

With the aforementioned problems and seeming disdain for cyclists shown by SBR management, I reckon this issue would have to be escalated to the provincial department.

There has been mention on this thread of SBR being a training venue, but who's to say these satchets were left by peeps doing a training ride? Could the antelpoes not have ingested a satchet left by a racing cycling in the reserve?

The OP has stated many things as fact, but it begs more answers.

This discussion of Gu wrappers and other sh*t has been aired before. Sad to see the trail closed because of inconsiderate riders. Really sad.

Who manages SBR?

I see coming up with ideas here trying to solve the problem rather than just to complain about it gets you flamed on this tread, but flame away; here is another.

Heavily fine littering perpetrators in the reserve. Sell the idea to the parksboard by means of job creation. Place a (or 2 on weekends) "littering policemen" with a pair of strong binoculars and stealth and catch the bastards. Arrest them. Make them pay. We as concerned cyclists can show our support by sponsoring the binoculars and the fines may cover the salary (if it is as bad as mentioned). I am thinking R2000 fine.

O, and raise a R10 entry fee per bike. That should cover the salary too.

This is true, would be good if JB could shed a bit more light. First step towards actually resolving the issue, in lieu of all the frothing here. Myself included.

Overall though, the littering thing is definitely out of hand. Cycling, running, pedestrians, motorists ...

Peoples attitude is that there are people paid to pick up rubbish so they must do their job

So, what about searching cyclists before they go on the route....then just confiscate all goo wrappers etc.

Or sign them in and you have to provide your wrappers at exit in order to get a refundable deposit back??? All unclaimed deposits goes towards clean-up campaign???

Point is... there are ways & means to combat this scurge...

Rode the Golden Gate (a national park) pass a month ago. Alomst every 10m of the 50km ride there was broken glass from beer bottles thrown from windows. Plenty of plastic lying around too. But I don't see them banning cars anytime soon.
