When i cycle in afternoons 3 to 6 its hot as hell.. My prob is that it feels like my head goes up a few deg in heat...afterwards i sometimes get head ache which i presume is from the 2 or 3 hours in te sun and heat.

What can i do to cool down during rides? I tried using a bandana that i wet but also doesn't really work.

I get the same, but its normally due to not drinking enough (the headache afterwards at least). If I drink plenty before and during them I'm fine afterwards.

+1 I have had a similar experience on long rides when it's hot

Probably due to a coolant problem. Check the thermostat, and any radiator leaks. How's the compression? Is it just the head, or the entire block? You'll probably have to take the head off, have it skimmed and chuck a new set of gaskets at it as well.

Oh, wait, What?

Yeah, I always believed that the whole "ventilation" was a marketing gimmick. I thought, Mine has holes, what difference could there be? Recently got a new helmet with better ventilation, and it makes the world of difference.

He may be doing alot of offroading, so the radiator is blocked up with mud, maybe taking a high pressure hose to clean off all mud and try again?

No need to expand on Bob's solution, your hat is all the OP needs to repell the evil headache-mongering radiation.
