Had my (current) worst-ride-ever yesterday. Thought I'd shoot out past Bapsfontein, do a circuit through the farms and home. 3hrs I thought.

Rode out against the wind. @$@#$!! Turned at top of route - nice ride, no head wind, turned back - stared straight into the teeth of a thunderstorm. @$@#$ again!! No jacket (was warm and sunny when i left).

Dunno if anyone has experience the winds caused by the downdraft on a thunderstorm - they are fierce. So, granny geared into the wind, waiting for the rain. This 40km from home. Rain came. Granny geared through the rain and wind home. Just about died of exhaustion and hypothermia.

Had a shower to warm up and then started shivering and shaking after I got out due to cold blood in extremities returning to core. Last time this happened to me was motorcycling through the sleet from Edinburgh to London. Brought back unpleasant memories.

My previous worst ride was Magalies Monster a couple of years ago that I was completely undertrained for. Bonked and cramped solid before I even got 2/3 of the way up the mountain. Was a epic misery to get to the end...

1st time I rode the 99er.

Went back for more punishment year after, was my next-worst ride.

Went back again this year and finally slayed the beast and had an ok ride.

Agree with @manbearpig - "worst" is relative, still a lot better than my best day in the office!

Take more supplements. You'll be able to outrun the dogs then.

I just squealed, legs went up in the air and my step dad came and chased them away.

Worked. :)

My first Sabie classic. It was my second marathon ever and I totally underestimated those mountains. Bonked 20km into the 75km so I had to battled 55km home through the Sabie mountains. I thin bonk took on a totally new meaning Spend almost 6hrs in the saddle. After the ride I was in such a bad condition that I considered going to hospital.

Nothing serious for me so far...just been chased by two small dogs.

Last year I got bitten by a boerboel the size of an obese pony. Not fun having to ride home for 40km with a bleeding calf.

This years 99er going over the handle bars at 45 km/h in the Vets group, won't do another road race in the rain.

Developed a hate for dry grassy patches.

I hate those!!!! For some reason race organisers think that if you cut the grass really short it becomes a singletrack.
