The mens mtb race is going to be hectic, that course looks narrow and difficult to pass on. Good start is going to be critical for Burry....

50 riders including Phillip Buys, Marc Bassingwaithe, Adrian Niyonshuti

the

Very interesting to see Robert Fosterman listed as a starter, he's the track sprint dude with the huge quads

That is very strange, maybe just doing it for kicks

:

Robert Forstemann (the german track cyclist with MASSIVE thighs) is only entered in the MTB so that germany have a larger number of people to select from for the track events (there is a limit to the number of riders on the track team
, but there is a loophole that any rider entered into any cycling event can compete on the track). Now that all of his track events are finished, it would be funny to see him actually have a go at the MTB, but i doubt he'll event start.

Seems like he was entered as a MTBer, and could then be entered into the track events

Let me put this in context. Athletics will never progress in SA unless somebody takes some action (ASA) since it already fails at primary school level. There is absolutely no desire at school level to develop athletes that shows promise. My boy this year made the school team in 100m dash and hurdles, and it seems that the events are being rushed through at the beginning of each year just to get it done with. Absolutely no coaching was done. And the events themselves was not a shining example of organisation.

Fact is it seems that in SA rugby and cricket gets all the attention, and athletics and swimming is just a sideshow.

Then you are looking/ sending your boy to the wrong schools, Westville Boys High, which produced two Olympics Athletes has one of the best swimming programs in the country. We are not top of swimming because as a result of no attention.

Personally I think the BMX has had the best camara work out of all the events I've watched so far.

Batty from Canada completed the XC course and finished 10 mins behind the winner despite this:

I thought the camera work at the MTB was very well done.

'dale I think that xray is from a previous collarbone break, she just had a fracture this week from a fall which slowed down her descents. Think she fell from this rock garden:

Caster earns silver.

Medal 6 for SA.

Two better than 2008, I think.

five better actually.... I think 6 was a good haul - 8 was in reach but someone has to come 4th and 5th and sometimes it will be our medal hopefuls... But I see Gideon Sam still thinks we could/should've gotten the 12... :whistling: In particular he demonstrated just how well he understood yesterdays mtb race by stating:

"I was looking at Burry Stander yesterday, and I thought two more mountain bikers on our side could have helped him and kept him in the loop there, but he had to do it himself."

oookkaaaay then...

I have a question. Why did Joanna Rowsell do that?

In her words:

"If I can make a difference to young girls with the same issue then that’s a responsibility. If they can look at me and think it’s not the end of the world and they can still do what they want to do, that’s pretty amazing."
