bradwentzel Posted June 3, 2012 Share As someone who has to pay the reward companies for services they provide in my stores, I would say discovery is the best. Better value for money for the customer.
Cranky Posted June 3, 2012 Share I have both cards. But you get a lot more back from Discovery. Big discount at PicknPay, at least 10% at many shops (e.g. Cape Union Mart, Look n Listen, ToysRUs, Pro Shop, Exclusive Books), and others, like discounted kulula flights and 25% off Adidas gear. RexFuzzle Posted June 4, 2012 Share Depends on your Vitality points as far as I can see. Once you get to diamond it is awesome!
Klaus Posted June 4, 2012 Share Use your FNB cards as gas stations. I getting plenty ebucks back from that. Danger Dassie
Cheese Posted June 4, 2012 Share I have discovery and agree that it has some nice benefits only thing is that you are limited where to spend the discovery miles as you would know. That will influence my decision. Currently getting Cape union mart vouchers and buying from them to use the miles but off course there is the money back ewards as well. Ratty Posted June 4, 2012 Share Switch your car insurance to discovery, get the vitality drive and then you get really nice cash backs at certain stores :-) I get 30% cash back from stores like Cape Union Mart and Toys r Us (great if you have a kid), thats a rather nice discount. I also get 40% cash back on my fuel if I purchase from BP with my discovery card. You have the option to get the cash back, or put it into your excess fund. My excess fund got to R2900 in less than a year so now I don't have to worry about paying excess if I claim. EBucks are nice because you can use them at places like Kalahari, but the overall benefit I get from discovery is much better.
Slowbee Posted June 4, 2012 Share the catch as I see it with Discovery is that you have to be big buyer into the vitality program. if you dont have anything in the vitality program, dont bother. E bucks is the way to go.
Grebel Posted June 4, 2012 Share the catch as I see it with Discovery is that you have to be big buyer into the vitality program. if you dont have anything in the vitality program, dont bother. E bucks is the way to go. The thing is that it is so easy to get to Gold on Vitality that once you are there, it is all worth it. I just applied for my Discovery CC card and should take delivery within the next two weeks. I spend every month anyway so why not get something back for it? MTBer wannabee Posted June 4, 2012 Share I had both, but eventually did not use the vitality enough to warrant the R110 a month service fee. This was after they cancelled my gym contract because i was not active enough even after i tried to explain nicely that i had no time to go to gym that year as i was busy paddling dusi, running comrades, running two oceans, swimming midmar, and playing a season of hockey. FNB all the way. They dont discriminate. Slowbee
mr HED Posted June 4, 2012 Share thanks guys, i am into the whole discovery thing - on gold status should be diamond in 2014, so might as well use vitality and lay low on fnb...thanks for all the posts

TwiggzSA Posted June 4, 2012 Share thanks guys, i am into the whole discovery thing - on gold status should be diamond in 2014, so might as well use vitality and lay low on fnb...thanks for all the posts Just remember that there's a catch with going to Diamond. You have to maintain gold for 3 years and then the following year you will be on Diamond. So for example: 2012: Reach Gold2013: Maintain Gold2014: Maintain Gold - Stay on Gold until the end of the year. Move to Diamond from 1 Jan of next year.2015: From 1 January move to Diamond status. Might be useless information but this caught me out. I thought as soon as I reached gold on the 3rd year that I'd be moved to Gold but not so. FanieFiets Posted June 4, 2012 Share If you have a Discovery life policy is almost a no-brainer as you'll get 15% discount on that if you integrate it. You have to use a certain amount on average to maintain it. Then Discovery miles is almost identical to ebucks (remember both are firstrand). Then you get additional discount when you spend your Discovery credit card. FOR eg. I get 20% back from autopage every month. 20% back from a lot a shops like cape union, totalsports, stuttafords, @home. If you buy addidas as Totalsports you get additional 25% discount. Add the short term (but I had clients with very bad clients and I do not like some of the exclusions) and you can get and ADDITIONAL 15% discount on that. E-buck is much more simple and will work if you do not want to worry about all the tests etc.
Dustbug Posted June 4, 2012 Share Using discovery with reasonable returns and now with a lot of the KZN MTB races listed on SA Active scoring the vitality points for riding is an additional plus
