My theory is never to stop and don't external factors get in the way.

This time of the year is more trying as the cold settles in but if I stop now to get going again is going to be so tough I rather brave the cold.

A person will always MAKE time for the things that are important to him/her.

If you want to ride your bike you'll find time !!!!!

I used to say the same.....

Went for my 2nd real ride this year (not counting the spinning bike), 40 k on the mtb easy route avg HR 120 bpm and legs were toast...

I will be forced to commute during this winter. My backup car was stolen two weeks ago. So mrs Batty uses my car and I will be cycling, come rain or sunshine pretty much until I have decided wether to buy another car or not.

Anyone who has the balls to dump everything and hit t on his own i have massive respect for, particularly in today's corporate environment.

How about this for an idea - take whatever you would have spent on a new car, divide it by 2 and spend it on a new bike! You'll be saving money and spoiling yourself at the same time.

That "I'm sick and tired of corporate life" thread prompted me to resign. 13 days to going freelance and having bike time!

Wow, man!

CB, can't you leave yourbike at work and fit in a quickie over lunchtime?? Assuming you can find some reasonably traffic-free riding? It's cool enough not to have to worry about showers and stuff and 45mins will be a good start...

I've seriously considered buying a second commuter to do this. I work above Action Cycles and have access to the fan walk.

... I used to work through lunch breaks but NO job's worth all the overtime I used to put in!

Agree 100% and currently a serious problem I have. This month is the last month I put in any overtime.

Do it!!

If you do decide to go it alone, know that the worst boss out there is going to be yourself... So make sure you think it through and know how you are going to balance things. And don't do it until you're back in the cycling habit - best way to avoid working all the time is to have your cycling diary planned out (same with family...)

My previous 5 years of riding, (with maximum weight during the year in brackets).

2008 - about 12100 km (77kg)

2009 - 6694Km (79Kg)

2010 - 3120Km (82Kg)

2011 - 1971Km (88Kg)

2012 - 1137Km (89Kg)

So glad this is not following the trend of 50% less than the previous year - hope to clock more distance than 2011 (88Kg).

Have also not been on the bike last 3 months. Don't feel bad at all and enjoy the break. Will start doing some riding again in July but not much. Don't think i will be racing this year.

Funny thing is since i stopped cycling i dropped 6% bodyfat. Currently just doing some gym work with bit of very low intensity cardio about 3 times a week. Shows me that my nutrition was totally off for the amount of training i have done in past
