i found the Pacenti tyres to be so soft and easy wearing ? converted to tooooobless pretty easily though. have you got backups?

I only race that bike occasionally so no problem ..... am busy sourcing a set of Racing Ralphs though just in case :)

I would wait till it becomes more mainstream and till there are Maxxis Ikon tires in 650b. No reasonable tire options yet unless the Ralph is Snakeskin, but I think they are not, I might be wrong. But I know Merida SA have been converting some of their bikes to 650b successfully.

I did the Tru Cape Algin race, the Sani2c plus the Knysna 80 km plus some rides on Eselfontein and touch wood I still have not had a puncture on the Racing Ralph (non snakeskin) yet.

the 650b rims might fit fine etc etc - the big question is - what happens on a muddy ride - the gap between fork and tyre will be so small that you will be going nuts with even the smallest bit of mud!

One of the pitfalls. So some okes end up with skinny tires. I would rather ride a fat 26" tire than an anorexic 650b

There are a very frames that are compatible - Zula/Spark ect.

There is however a much cheaper option - 27.5/650B wheel are in fact 27.3.

If you take a 26" with high volume tyres like Kenda Slant six you end up with a 27.23.

It depend on how much that .5 inch is worth to you.

What if you want a 650b with a really big tyre?

Or you might want 27.23" with a low volume tyre that weighs less, as opposed to a slightly heavier high volume 26" tyre.

hey, have converted two bikes,a scott spark 10 2011,fitted straight on,no problems. The other a specialized s-works era,had to change the chain stay to an aluminium one,to get the rear to clear, weight differance between carbon and ally was 60gr.

WHY !!!! when racing xc need the clearance for rocks and technical sections, you do not loose the acceleration or the speed thru the tight stuff.

My wife has short le syndrome and thus cannot fit a 29er

Speak to Paul at Epic Cycles, they did this conversion for a friend, and he seems very happy with it...

It has no less clearance than my Momsen 29r - you know that ueber best thing since sliced bread or do they also make mud disappear amongst their other magic tricks?

Or if you know its going to be muddy put your old 26inch back on.

Same as my 26" Trance, very little clearance. When I had the 650b wheel on my hardtail the clearance was about the same.

Thanks everyone for the feedback, main reason for wanting to make the change is that I can't seem to keep up with the 29ers, yet everyone says a 29er will be too big for me and might mess up my knees. Some people have told me that 27.5 will eventually take off here in SA, it's just a matter of time. I'll take it to my LBS and see what they say, maybe try fit a pair of new wheels before I buy anything. Thanks so much!

Hi Cath .... I am really keen to hear the logic behind how a 29'er will mess up your knees ...

I'm 6f1, and I find a 29 way too big for me. I'm in need of new wheels, so will hopefully get my 27.5 upgrade in september, and convert my Zula.
