Clinton1 Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 Eat humble pie 26ers, marketing gimmick my arse! 29er dually rules!!! Yeah, because we all ride courses like that every day....
'Dale Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 Really wanted The Stander to get a medal. What a fighter. The 1st 20 minutes was soooo fast!
Azonic Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 I know Burry had to play catch up, but I still think he laid it down way too soon. When he and Hose caught up he just should have sat there. He even moved up to 3rd wheel which was great, but half a lap later he moves into 1st which lasted no more than 10 seconds before being passed again. Energy wasted. Then in the rock garden he had a bit of a blunder, but caught up again, and went to the front again if I remember correctly? None of us are in the position to bad mouth anyone fitter than us, but I do believe he wasted energy that could have been saved just sucking wheel - waiting for the exact spot where Jaroslav attacked up the last climb.

I think most of of his matches were burnt getting to the leading group.Spectacular effort and the cost in energy was high. Still wanna understand how The Stander started in the front row and then lost position so badly - 19th.And then, stuck behind in the queue, the front riders splintered off. Well fought, Burry!
TNT1 Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 but I do believe he wasted energy that could have been saved just sucking wheel - waiting for the exact spot where Jaroslav attacked up the last climb. Dude? Are you new here? It is well documented on this forum that wheelsuckers are lower than earthworm ****, and winning after doing it is even lower than that.

'Dale Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 The start is pot luck, and makes all the difference. Gotta have your sprinting powers ready for that opening burst.Position, position.
CAAD4 Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 Yip, Nino did what he does best. Hit the front and go like stink. Well done to whoever can pip him in a sprint. There's not many in mtb that can. Edit: the hub god of mtb says I'm an idiot baby, so I probably pulled the above statement out my arse. Look who's trying to rub it in now. If this is how you are when you are nearly right, I'd hate to see you when you are wrong...
Clinton1 Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 Is that why you have a 26 er? You prefer a ride that is a bit more testing/technical than today? No, I've got one because I am not an idiot who thinks paying more for a 29er will suddenly turn me into an Olympic champion. I also do not see many around me tackling rocky sections like that every day.... (Stoked your infatuation has not diminished )
arendoog Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 Burry lost it at the start.Riding catchup in that field is going to take every bit of energy out of you .Well done to put up such a brave efford The Ghost 1

No, this is how I'm trying to understand why he feels the need to follow me around like a puppy dog. Like Clint says, I'm stoked by the infatuation, but, seriously, guy, I'm not into dudes. Wyatt Earp Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 Again, every armchair specialist has an opinion. We weren't there, we don't know exactly who felt like what on the day and what happened at the start. To me the hero of the day goes to Fontana, he rode hard to stay in contention and when your legs are tired after 90 minutes of hard sprinting, nothing is as welcome as a saddle, so when his post snapped, he had to dig even deeper. I don't think there was much between that top 5 to be honest.Burry had a bad start, for what reasons, none of us will know, I will say that to my eyes he rode the hardest race out of that front 5. I have never watched an XCO event as hard as this one today, I would love to see these guys heart rates.Burry did us proud and turned himself inside out to try and get back in contention .Yaroslav is a class act and was very hungry for this. Nino has some good form and I will eat my humble pie from when I said that he burnt too many matches early on in the season. It was a spectacular race and we should count ourselves as rather privileged that we got to see such a great and closely contested race. Sitting here speculating about why Burry din't go from the word go, well that's just silly, as I already said we were not there. Let's not all act like some expert or some clown with small man syndrome. We are starting to look like 5 foot little men who buy off road vehicles and GS 650 's just so we can look the part. Personally, I would love to see a race report from Burry, I think he had the legs, the form, technical ability and the hunger to get on to the podium, it was all evident in the way he rode.
