Have only had one experience with them - dealt with a guy called David I think. Was helpful, professional, gave good advice. Bought a saddle which was a bit more than what I'd've paid in US$ from overseas, but then a shop in Melrose Arch is not going to come for free.

Comment from my LBS is that Spec started throwing their weight around in terms of minimum stock level requirements that made it impossible to stock Spec stuff.

I'd not normally buy Spec as I think there are better mtb's out there, and on those you don't have to pay extra for the name either. However, I borrowed a saddle from my boet and my arse liked it, so wanted that particular model.

If you replaced all that then I would say its reasonable. But did everything need replacing? All 3 chainrings? A new headset? A new freewheel body?

Was the bike stuffed when it came in then?

Good question - the bike is just under a year old and has been serviced there before. For the record, they did NOT do the tubeless conversion. The customer had this done when the bike was bought. All they needed to do was top up the slime.

Also is R5113 excl VAT, because my mate swears he paid R5600 all in.

Anyways, you budding mechanics out there, you know what things cost. You decide.

Furthermore please stop bashing the dealers that support the Specialized brand, stock issues are not controlled by the dealers it is a Distribution issue, ie the importers of the brand control the stock availability.

We, as all other industries, are at the mercy of the Distribution networks.

We obviosuly believe in this product and the benefits that it can generate for the riders that choose to utilise Specialized products, which is why we are passionate about the brand.

If you have complaints forward them to me and I will pass them on to the distributor.

ALMOST 6K for a service!! YOU MUST BE TRIPPING BALLS!!

As for the no stock issue, if you wanted a 26" dont bother becoz they only brining in 29ers.....

And epics, they gonna have soo many epics its gonna be coming out the back sides!! But hey, what do I know...I have only been in the industry longer that that store manager!!

If a clown had to ask me for a cycling cv....hahaha i would have told him to join me on a xc track to see him *** off and then ask him if i need one, selling a top end bike as a salesman earns com...but if u getting paid enough who needs com!

Mr RattleSnake, I know you very well. Ride together alot! PLEASE!! TELL YOUR MATE TO GO TO DUNKELD!

Cant believe a shop can be run like that, its NOT awe!

At R5500 for a service it will solve your stock issues! Less buyers = more stock!

Ricky, I don't ride a Spez and haven't been to your store but it looks to me like you have 4 pages of complaints right here to take to the distributors. It shouldn't have taken this long for you to relise that the distributors and their lack of spares / parts is directly impacting your revenue. As for Client Service - well that's something that is well within your control and should be under constant review.

Search for the thread about FPC and the guy who had the shop close early when they said they would wait - when the manager found out the apologised on the hub and promised to sort it out with the individual. With the number of LBS's around and the wide choice of bikes (easily as good as Spez), keeping customers happy should be a priority.

Just my 2CW.

I'm on the fence with this one...as I work in the industry (and previously at the forementioned store) and I know what things cost...If you buy stuff on the net, you can maybe get stuff a bit cheaper, but being a retail outlet they subscribe to the local distributors and their pricing. For example a suspension bearing kit retails at R1000 - includes the spacers etc (and please don't say you can get the bearings cheaper from bearing man, I have tried - works out the same, and most other brands are not far off).

A big blade (chainring) is anywhere from R400-R1500, cassette from R400-R2000...So lets take the mid range for all the components and R5k comes up quick! I too have had to make the phone calls to give the cost and have had the uncomfortable silence on the other end of the line, choice is we fix the bike or we don't...also two sides to every story... so lets be reasonable, as I have said before you want to pay R300 for a service you going to get a R300 service and don't whine when the bike doesn't work!

I am sick of hearing guys moan about the cost of keeping their bikes going but when you go cheap you moan that so and so bike shop is *** cuz they cant service the bike properly...YOUR CHOICE!

how many km's ridden as a matter of interest?.....i find cycle shops are very quick to jump on replacing drivetrains for the sake of it.

Right there is the reason you won't see a cent from me. Try a different approach.

Again bash the shop...but when you say no to replacement of parts and the bike breaks at Sani/Epic etc the favourite quote is "But I've just had the bike serviced!"

Fully agree with what you are saying.

Customer should still be kept up to date with what is happening on their bike. Also, Ive seen countless shops replace things that are not completely needed. For example replacing a disc because they are too inept or lazy to straighten it or just replacing a chain because they can.

Not saying this is what happened but it does happen.

Thank God I have the ability to do this myself. Even doing it myself however doesn't make the parts cheaper. Off CRC I'm still in for R800 for a cassette and chain but its almost 30% cheaper than buying locally. LBS wanted R1200 for the same stuff.

I am not only saving money but I also know exactly what is going onto my bike and I know all the bolts are properly done up and the bike is ready to go.
