Riding out at the Cradle just after lunch today my GF and I came across two guys that had been riding with a buddy who had statred to feel a bit under the weather. They went back to fetch a vehicle for him while he had a rest beside the road and when they got back to him he had sadly suffered a heart attack and passed.

They were understandably stunned by what had happened and between phone calls to family and medics etc were questioning whether things would have worked out differently had one of them stayed with him.

My heart goes out to these youngsters who did nothing wrong but will undoubtable beat themselves up over this. Thoughts also to his family.

I stayed with them until the funeral director arrived - not wanting to intrude but not wanting to desert them either. I hope they and the family get through this difficult time.

RIP fellow cyclist.

Generally those are massive MI,s and the prognosis is poor even with immediate treatment .There is nothing they could have done other than comfort him.Think how traumatized the other person would have been

I also happened upon the scene, must have been when the buddies of the deceased were off fetching the car. Of concern besides the untimely departure of a fellow cyclist was the paramedics on the scene had no idea who he was. and were debating taking his bike to various venues where cyclists are known to start their rides in the cradle area. I understand that his mates may not have been in a position to save his life but a friend comforting you is probably better then passing away alone. Always have ID with you on your ride, on your wrist or on your bike with contact numbers in case of emergency. ICE (in case of emergency) your phone with a friend or family member that knows you are going riding.

RIP, and thoughts with the families affected.

Very sad and RIP. Strength to the family. I agree with The Force that it might have been better if one stayed with him while the other get the vehicle, but doubt that it would have saved his life. This is not to critisize anyone but one day one of us might be in the same situation and have to make the same descisions.

I once got to a scene where a cyclist crashed out. Paramedics got to him but also battled to get info out of him. I stopped and eventually we got it out of him that he is actually an embassy employee from the US embassy and managed to get a contact number for the embassy. The paramedics just loaded him and told me they are taking him to Unitas hospital and here I was with his bike and started to call the embassy and finally got hold of his wife. Wondered what would have happened if nobody was there to assist.
