So.... the Mrs and I have decided to not, not try for kids....

The Mrs has done LOTS of research and has decided to cut back on her own training so as to improve her chances of falling pregnant.

There is a quid pro quo though..... she thinks I need to cut back too

My question is, how many of you hubbers, that take their cycling a little more seriously (i.e. 10 hrs - 15 hrs a week) have actually had a problem. I.e. you were told to back it off for a while in order to have kids?

Or asked differently, how many of said more serious cyclists had no problems and carried on riding as normal?

PS - I do have wider, cut away saddles on all my bikes (spez ones)

I was competive doing 12- 15 hrs/week for about 10 years before we married started a family, and ended up with 4 kids 10 years later before I got a snip. Now 45 years after joining my first cycling club I've cut back to 4-6 hrs per week ...

I guess cycling made me too fertile....

And all those years ( and now) I rode a Rolls Saddle or its predecessor with the same shape.

Its BS.

I currently ride 15hours odd per week since i stopped racing full time where I was riding from dawn to dusk, I even had to have a nut removed because of cycling , been doing this for 25odd years AND with one nut still managed two kids without even blinking .

Just ride and dont stress the more you worry the less chance .

Doing 12 hours a week. Mommy got rid of the pills and it took us (and the postman maybe) about a month to fall preggies.

So no issues this side.

Same time in the saddle as per Spinnekop every week, even repeated the same process again seven years later to make 2 x little Hairy's out there.

Only problem with falling pregnant so quickly is that you have less time getting pregnant!

IMHO cutting back your training and the resulting change in how you are living would have a more dramatic effect on potential kiddies coming out than you training as you are.

BUT - reach a compromise. Instead of riding 10 - 15 hours a day week, take the time to do some cross training, and hit the gym for weights / flexibility training or take up running. Far better to have her happy, and keep on training through other ways than to say to her that the cycling has no effect on little johnny & the swimmers, ignoring her concerns and creating an illusion that you don't care about the kids.

Also - I was doing approx 10 hours / week and we fell preggers within a month of her coming off the pilletjie.

Also had no problem with my long hours in the saddle and getting the wife pregnant. I would be more woried about the phone that you keep in your pocket bringing down your sperm count than the cycling

Sage like advice, the problem is, this future daddy is GRUMPY when he doesnt get to ride.... and the cross training - I do some of that already and quite honestly couldnt stomach one more hour inside the gym then I already do spend... I need the wind in my hair!

I also felt cheated. The thought of it 'taking years' most definately was not all a bad thing.....
