If you want to look a little deeper, then I’d start to try and align the type of steel with the environment in which it would be used, the edge retention and ease of sharpening etc etc to ensure I select the best steel.

Then I would consider the finish and edge on the steel, different blade shapes and profiles have different strengths and weaknesses and what and how and how much it needs to cut will determine the shape and finish.

Then the grip and it’s liner, is the liner part of the locking mechanism, is it thick / thin enough, is it light enough etc.

Does the grip need to work in the wet, do I need to get a full hand on it, does it protect the hand (if needs be), does it just need to look awesome etc

And then sadly I have to consider the cost. [emoji4]

It's light enough to carry in my pocket, want to start riding with it just for when/if I need something for any unforseen, unplanned and potential "problems" of any kind. [emoji848]

Then consider a small thin fixed blade that you can hang from your neck, like this:

http://www.benchmade.com/cbk-family.html

Thin, light, fixed blade, quick to deploy.

[emoji5]Then I might look like the mayor of Groot Brak with that hanging around my neck [emoji6][emoji38]

I ride with a honey badger which you can also get from Trappers, light cheap and sharp. Can hardly feel it’s there

When I’m looking at a knife I look for a few things, the steel used, the manufacturer and its history, the design of the locking mechanism (if applicable), the liner and the grip.

On a knife like this (and the price is a good give away), you can disregard the manufacturer and the finer details. So we are left with the steel.

This particular steel is best described as adequate in most departments of hardness, corrosion resistance and edge retention.

It’s not great or even good in any department, but for the money and if you are looking for a knife that you can work and not get attached to it will work.

Spend a bit extra an get a Badger, also from trappers. Far better blade steel.

The Badger uses 8Cr13MoV as far as I know which is close to 440C, which is better that the other which is more like 440A or 440B in characteristics.

Still not a steel I like, but they are more afordable.

I Have 20 knives that are not being used, taking up space and collecting dust. I Would like to sell them all as a package but will consider individual sales as well. There are 6 Kershaw's, 3 Spyderco's, 3 Puma's and a couple more. Some are new and have never been used and the the ones that were used are in excellent condition. If anyone is interested please do not respond to me on this Topic/Thread. Please contact me by phone or PM.

Hi Guys,

We have meteorite auction cumming up, and we have a Knife made with a Gibean blade, and Giraffe handle. Gibean is the meteorites found in Namibia.

Are kidneys accepted as fair currency?
