MTB weight

What is a good weight for a MTB?

 

Mine comes in at around 14kg's and I have no idea where that is on the scale(of how much mtb's weigh)

 

Im not a weight freak or anything , just interested.

I know someone with a full sus 29er (large frame) that comes in at just over 8kg. That being said, I'll break his wheels going over a 5c coin...

14 kg is onn the heavy side (unless it is a downhill rig)

I recommend:

under 13kg for full sus 29er

under 12 kg for full sus

under 11 kg for hardtail

 

Anything under 10kg becomes very expensive

 

I am sure there will be lots of opinions on this topic

Same boat here. My 26er trail bike is around 13 to 14kg depending on which tyres are on. The SS is around 10kg.

My old Donkey GT is around 15kgs with all the crap on it (mudguard, pump,spare tube, couple of lights and thicker inner tubes), solid bike though!

My new Ghost is around 12.5kgs and I really plan on keeping it thay way! That 2kg difference is really noticeable after a long day of riding!

My mtb is about 9.4kg. Very costly. However I'm only on xt parts which lasts. Wheels not great either, but can't pay the penalty in a race for a broken carbon rim.

My 26" hardtail is 10.5kg's and has damn heavy tyres on it.

Other than that i have Full XT, carbon everything and my fork is sub 1.5kg.

 

If i want to go lighter i will need to chage tyres(obviouse)

or start using lighter parts which will either be very expensive or not that durable.
