Hey guys!

Just wondering what mtb tyres you guys use?

I'm fairly new to mtb'ing, my first descent bike now, and have a set of Kenda Karma (tubeless) fitted.

Must say I'm happy, but then again, I don't have a reference point!!

The larsen TT is a very very popular choice.  There are more expensive Maxxi tyres like crossmark, but Larsen TT is a good budget tyre.  Some people even put it on counter rotational in wet weather to get more grip.

I hope that descent bike of yours is good on ascents as well :)

I'm riding Geax tyres at the moment, but not that impressed. They are alright for hardpack stuff, but very poor in the rain.

I had the Kenda Karmas (with tubes) before and they are really the best tyres I've ever ridden, but I got a ridiculous amount of punctures. I think the tubeless ones won't have this problem. The other good thing about them is they have very strong sidewalls. Apparently some tubeless tyres are not very good in the sidewall department.

Kenda Nevegal Tubeless on the FS and Crossmark Tubeless on the HT

The Kenda is much softer than the Crossmark and is riddled with plugs.

Not one in the Crossmarks

At present I have the Maxis Crossmarks on.  Not bad.  But I cannot comment yet as I have not done that much milage yet.

I have ridden the Pythons before with great sucess!  Very expensive though but they lasted me well with NO punctures!

Crossmarks! Smooth on the hard stuff and grips the loose very well. Pretty puncture resistant but not too quick to shed the black sticky mud but then which tyre does.

Does evryone run slime?

On the MTB Tandem we use Conti 26 x 1.3 slicks and Conti 2.3 Gravity's. Both work well. The Tandem serves a dual purpose her in Lagos. We train on the roads but do tackle a trail when we find one.

I am a fan of the Karma, great all round race and training tyre. I go for the normal kevlar bead though to save weight. The Kenda Klimax Lite is a brilliant marathon tyre and the Maxxis Larsen Mimo is good in mud. My 2c worth.

The Kenda and Maxxis in general are good tyres, but if youre going tubless the Kenda Nevegals give lots of sealing problems.

Never had any problems. I can get the Nevagals pumped and seated without sealant.

I have been using Kenda Small block 8 for about 2 months now.

Nice and fast all round tire and it is not to bad in mud.

I will be using it at Sabie.

As you can see, everyone has his/her own favourite tyre.

I'm currently using Geax Saguaro and will be for Sani 2 C. I will also be taking some Conti Mountain Kings along.

Running the Crossmarks but LittleBen has changed from them to some Specialized 'captain control'. He feels that they give better grip (specifically cornering) and shed the mud better, perhaps not as 'easy' rolling on flat hardpack. That of course is subjective (as in IMHO) as always ........

And in team Dad the fact that they cost somewhat less than the Crossmarks is also important and they are 2bliss ready! This laaitie can wear a tyre in no time.

I used maxxis LUST (think they crossmark) for Epic last year. From 2 months before at 16 hours training a week on the bike, no flats. No flats during epic either. No flats for 4 months after epic... they get 10/10 from me
