I'm a student currently studying for exams and this morning at 10am I was the only one home in our residential home in Stellenbosch. I was asleep under my blanket because I did not want the light to bother me(studied till late). I woke up to the sound of strange noise in the front of my room an when I loked, there he was, standing in my room. He had climbed into the upstairs window of my room which faces the street and is in clear view of the entire street.

Brave or stupid?

Anyway, we both got a massive skrik, he jumped out the window onto the porch and sped off on his bicycle.

I shouted at im and decided not to chase afer him.

Good decision? What would you have done?

I'm not a small guy but is chasing and potentially hurtng him in an effot to stop him really worth it?

Good decision. Try not to feel to mad or bad and remember that the situation was not under your control....... Your live or wellbeing can not be measured in physical things.

True, i've always heard stories like this and thought I would catch and blikem the bugger but flip, when it happns it's a whole nother story. Had he taken my brand new Reba which is in my room I may have reacted differently

Most poeple dont know about "adrenaline dump" and the effects of it. That is why you did not bliksem him and 9/10 people wouldnt have either. Remember that the ONLY goal / victory in such a situation is to get out of it with as little harm as possible, and that you did. Be mad at the guy but not yourself!!!!

i would have chased him if he was on a 26" er, but on a 29" er you would have no chance

HAHA, it was my natural instinct to check out his bike. Very average Raleigh. My new 29er was sitting downstairs, had he got that I would not have been too pleased.

So he was a mountain biker is what you are saying? Dodgy lot those mountain bikers and the bikes are very expensive to maintain.

Seriously though, it's not a joke. Main thing is you were not hurt.

Best wishes. This kind of experience can live with you.

Glad you're fine.

I was in the situation a while ago where I had to go into someone's yard because a friend was inside the house and a guy was trying to get in. Needless to say, in I went, armed with a knife.....

Long story short, glad I didn't find the guy.... he ripped off a palisade gate and kicked open the side door with one kick, so my knife would have been rather useless :P

But with adrenaline pumping like that you don't think straight.

Buddy of mine could not join our ride this morning because his foot is a bit bruised. Turns out somebody tried to take his cell last night. After a short wrestle the guy went to the ground. Gave the guy a solid kick. He said he could hear the guy's jaw split. Some might also think this is wrong but i have no sympathy for somebody that tries to steal from me

Sympathy belongs to victims.

A broken jaw will teach him (it's a very crappy thing to break) :D
