Wow from your times i am assamed to put my up. 4h02 for the 55km. the hills killed me.

I can't agree more, those climbs are a bitch, I hated every second of them but my tank loved the fast downhills, must be honest I actually enjoyed this more than last year, for me there were no real bottle necks that I was slowed down at by any real measure, last year was horrible but I put that down to riding the 30km last year and starting off in A6 this year. According to the times I did a 2:39 am sure that's wrong though I was out a lot longer. Did the full 55 with no shortcuts so I think race tech have a bigger problem than they think, unless its my chip?

You guys still got up and beat the crap out of a few million people just by pitching and finishing. It is not always about the times we post, but for most of us it is about the time(s) we have!

Well done to all of you!

I haven't seen the results but I have an idea where the A8s went wrong. There was a section, just by the Gautrain, where you could take a big short-cut if you weren't careful. The group I was with took the short-cut by mistake, but luckily Morne realised we were wrong, so we doubled back and did the full route. I think the short-cut would have cut out about 10km.

Was it under the bridge? If so it would have cut out the longest drag of the day. I dont think this solvable. I was riding with very few riders around me when suddenly a bunch came by like bats out of hel. Next climb they dissapeared though. Couldn't figure it out at the time. So what is the next challenge for the ss guys- cyclocross ss bikes?

It is going to be interesting to see how Racetec solve this, it was not only the A8s, but also A7, A6, A5. My wife finished 4th in her age group behind 3 A8's - one of which had an average speed faster than Carl Platt!

It was totally rediculous! The organization of this sucked big time. I started in A8 (8h10) and was forced to take the 30km loop as we apparently missed the cut-off. I had a look at the rules and it stated a cut-off at 10h30. I crossed the finish line a few minutes past 10am! WTF.

Where is the fairness regarding the entry fee that you pay and the batch that you start in???

The best is that I stopped and the guy just refused that we proceed on the 55km route.

How will the organizers know who was redirected vs someone that was really fast?

Times still on Racetec Results page. I see Max Knox is listed for 2:46! Must have gone a long way wrong or had a terrible mechanical day. Didn't recognise him amongst the stranded/ mechanicals but without the moustache he looks like all of us mere mortals.

Mountain bike events(actually any 'supplemental event) linked to a road race ar to be avoided like the plague, or made fun of in the execution thereof

Well done!!! I saw a couple of A2 doing that and not by mistake, when we came through, they just rode down as if they done nothing wrong?

Thats why we race the Kzn series.

I hate cheaters.

A lot more honest racers down south doing the ROAG series

Guys short cutting happens every year. It's annoying, but remember that this is just a fun ride. In fact, it's not even a race, it's more of an occasion to pull in and ride your bike with a bunch of other people who are doing strange things and falling over for reasons hard to tell.

That said, this race is always a longer harder slog than I expect. i suspect that is why people short cut - 94.7 MTB sounds like a jol, but once you are 30km in (or whereever that bridge is that you can short cut) and you are a fat unfit cyclist 55km probably seems a bit of a stretch.

3h09 for me. Started with tired legs but they held out to the end, much to my relief.

I'm with you guys, I too am of the slightly larger variety, and the hills hurt. Not in the beginning, mind you, as I specifically rode smaller gears and made a point of riding comfortably and taking it easy on the hills in an effort to save myself. Still, in the last 15kms, even a speed bump made me cringe. I finished the 55 in a 4:07 from A5, and ultimately finished it quite comfortably, despite feeling the hills at the end. I'm out there again next weekend for the road race, here's hoping for a full recovery before then. Biggest thing that hurts right now - my neck and shoulders, legs and butt are actually doing well.

Well done to all finishers, the fast and the slower, and supreme respect to those on single speeds - that's hardcore.

Really couldn't have said it better robox, just getting out there, sticking it out, and finishing is an achievement.

There was a girl in A8 on a single speed, saw her a number of times through the ride. She didn't even look tired. Hats off to her.

I started in A3 & did 3:21, same time as I did last year (Starting in A2). The only difference between the two being that this year I wasn't as tired at the finish.

That's progress isn't it?

Started MTB in January. Great sport. Wish I started at younger age. This was my first 94.7, started in A7 batch but pushed hard. We were 4 that took of quite fast. Believe I may have ended among the first 3 of A7 batch with a time around 2h55. Found it difficult to ride much harder with all the slower riders to pass. It drained a lot of energy to pass a lot of those guys. Personally - very chapped with myself.
