I bought a Giant Anthem 26er in May 2010. In June this year I noticed a crack in the frame at the weld where the seat tube meets the top tube. Got a replacement frame from Dragon Sports, no questions asked. 2 weeks ago I notice a crack in the new frame - same place. Dragon replace the frame again, no problem.

So firstly, well done to Dragon/Giant for the great service - makes me want to buy Giant again. But, secondly, this is obviously a design flaw in the Anthem frame - I have heard of other people who have also had issues, although those were 29er frames - makes me a bit reluctant to buy Giant again.

Any thoughts, anyone?

Might just not be the brand for you and your riding style. I have mates who swear by Giant and havent had problems, yet.

So try out something else, and hopefully you wont be left wanting on a long ride with a bust frame.

you're right. I love my Anthem, but I think my next bike might be a Stumpjumper 29er.

Ridden Giants, XTC/Anthem in Alu for 15 years...rode hard, abused, fallen, dunked the whole trip...no issues!

Some people through a bucket of strawberries in the air and catch dog turds on the return, sure you're bad run is done!thumbup1.gif

This is a problem with Giant bicycles they ALL crack in that EXACT SAME SPOT!!!

I had a Reign that cracked there..... A friend of mine had a Glory that cracked in the same spot......

That is the only reason that I wont buy a Giant - POOR structural design over the last couple of years.

One would think that Giant would figure out that something is not right with all the warranty replacements they need to do.......

Yeah, I hate Giant.

They need a support brace in the area indicated on the photo. Do a google search and you will see thousands of these frames across the world breaking in exactly the same spot.

So it goes with trying to make things lightweight... an extra gusset / support at that spot would have helped a lot.

If it breaks again see if you can pay in for an upgrade to the carbon version, I've read some good reviews on it.

Then I am blessed... I smash my Anthem X through everything and anything and she just accepts it.... Have seen other frames crack etc but not mine. I am a huge fan.

Although, I am currently building an On One Scandal Frame up, such amazing welds and handy work...

Ive had an anthem and a trance and have ridden them to hell and back crashed them , smashed them and never had a days issue. I think the issue is if the seatpost is to high it causes the frame to crack due to the extra leverage and pressure focused on that area.

so perhaps some people have got a frame size to small and are compensating by raising the seat post to high.

I always thought giant was bulletproof and i would recommend them to anyone.

there is a limit mark on the seatpost and I am about 5cm on the safe side of that. I am 1.78m and it is a medium frame.

I've been without a bike the whole month waiting for a replacement for my cracked anthem 29er frame.

It's a medium frame and I'm a bit big on it, so the seat is jacked up right to the maximum line on the seatpost. In theory it shouldn't be a problem, but if there is a specific weakness in this spot, a longer seatpost should reduce the twisting forces on the joint, as the forces should then be distributed further down the seat tube. I don't know this for sure but it stands to reason.
