I'm doing it as training for epic...at this stage it is worthwhile. Looks like it will be wet and muddy - any recommendations for tyre choice? Currently on RR but they not so good in mud?!

Conti mountain kings, mudguard.

If you are buying new tyres get as narrow as possible if you are anticipating mud.

Before everyone replies H.T.F.U I have no issue riding in the rain but that's the race i hear that it never does not rain continuously ???

I would have thought a fatter tyre.... more width, more traction... ??

After wading through your double negatives, I can answer that yes, it rains almost all the time. This race has earned it's reputation for being a bike breaker.

 

Plan on buying a new chain, cassette, BB brakes pads and gear cables to get your bike running after the race. The high pressure wash after each stage will trash the pivots on you full susser and will probably drill your hubs as well. Oh, and the climbs will hurt your legs.

And when it doesnt rain its so hot you wish it did. Great riding either way.

Last year, we didn't have any rain on the stages. overnight rain before day two, which muddied things up slightly.

Day one, I got temps of 38... farcanal it was hot
