sometimes when I drive my car into a situation like this, I feel quite bad afterwards for getting so upset. the other day I even hooted at a group of cyclists, with my (road) bike on my car, knowing exactly what was going to happen - the unavoidable "F*** you axxhole, we are 4 abreast and it stays like that". I feel bad because I should have just chilled and waited and been happy for them having the opportunity to enjoy the fresh air and the group activity. if they want to get killed in the process by riding stupidly, it shouldn't concern me, I only got to my destination 15 seconds later. what concerns me though is that they have no idea, how it feels as a driver, if you actually hit someone. Trust me, I have also been there and am still struggling with it. So - ride as stupid as you want, but consider the worst case and how it impacts others (maybe consider that before your show everyone the middle finger).

This was West Park road this morning.

Look at where you need to place your car to actually overtake.

Seriously?

Well done.

To be very honest, I like Slowbee's response.

I also agree with you to an extent, these roadies do tend to not give a **** about cars, even mountain bikers don't give to cahoots, I see it all the time.

**serious question**

What is a cocktonsil, shouldn't we just call them scrotums as they are a real ball ache.

Bottom line - we should all make an effort to ride closer to the LHS of the road!!

Seriously all you guys flaming the StevieL for having the audacity to name and shame a few guys riding unsafely, its that kind of attitude on the bike that will leave your wives as widows some day. It's also this kind of attitude that makes motorists our enemies.

No matter how tough or opinionated you are, you ain't no chuck norris and you WILL lose when a car hits you. But hey, ride how you want to, as for me, I'll avoid playing chicken with cars.

South Africa: Get your panties in a twist, post a pic on a cycling forum complaining about cyclist's bad behaviour.

Anywhere else in the WORLD where they don't worship Rugby, cricket and biltong: Chill out. Drive behind the group until it is save to overtake and do so in a civilized way.

Breath in.....breath out. Life is way to short to get your panties in a twist about ANYTHING. It just is not worth it!

C0cktonsil is my new favourite word and it more than aptly describes the riders in the pic.

What is worrying is that from reading the comments a large portion of the roadriding community seem to see nothing wrong with this -their opinion I suppose. But I think it is safe to say that the behaviour in the picture explains (not that it is right):

- Why so many cyclists get knocked over by cars

- Why Cradle residents put out tacks

- Why readers on "motor" forums hate cyclists

When are you going to learn that even if you are not in the wrong, which based on the behaviour I witness is highly unlikely, you are always going to be on the losing side ie taking a knife to a gun fight. So until a time comes that the only threat to your physical well being is kryptonite - I suggest not going head to head with a car. But hey, your call.

Huge generalisiations in my post but it is directed to those who ride in a similar fashion to the aforementioned c0cktonsils.

Why do I need to do that?

If they rode like they should be riding (like as far left as possible) then I wouldn't have to.

I mean big bloke centre pic is not even riding 2 abreast, but still feels the need to ride centre lane.

It because of habits like this that cause animosity between cars and bicycles.

That road is so narrow that even if they are single file you SHOULD overtake them in the other lane.....and even if they were single file you SHOULD overtake another road user in the other lane anyway according to the LAW.

Yes what they are doing is not 100% correct but you dont need to make SUCH a big thing about it you had ample space to overtake safely on a NOT so busy road EARLY in the morning......honestly we can all do with a little CHILL OUT!!!

The Urban Dictionary describes cocktonsil as “a word used to describe an undesirable person, with a tendency to be achingly annoying, who inflicts their presence on you in inconvenient situations such as traffic, the workplace, the supermarket, bars and shopping malls”.

The word is virtually limitless in its scope. Here are a few examples to start you off: “There goes another cocktonsil, changing lanes without indicating.” Or: “So sorry I’m late, I was stuck behind a slow-moving cocktonsil, doing 20 in the fast lane.” And, if you like to express your frustration with local politicians: “The cocktonsils on Cape Town’s city council have decided that they can reduce incidences of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome by closing bars earlier.”

Intriguingly, the word cocktonsilectomy has not yet been defined by the Urban Dictionary.

I ride with the ICG and as usual there are two sides to the story:

- firstly this road is narrow and the guys always end up in the traffic as soon as they move out a little;

- the group is moving fast here and slower guys are being overtaken (you will notice that they are riding

two abreast - NO MORE!!!), this is allowed by the Road Traffic Act;

- there is a pothole up ahead and the group does have to keep away from the side of the road in this

section.

So the photo and commentary are misleading. The criticism is unfounded and the original poster a prime

c0cktonsil.

However, having said that:

- the ICG does try to ride responsibily and we do try to ensure our guys ride at most

two abreast. Quite often we demand they guys keep in single file;

- we do not always succeed. We have several guys, who no matter how much you

tell then, or how much you ask, always insist on riding towards the middle of the

road. It is not something we (or I personally condone - I think they are inconsiderate

pr1cks), but we can't force them to ride towards the side;

- and yes, sometimes we do **** it up and ride all over the ****ing road until some

motorist hoots at us and tells us to get the **** off their road. But we try not to do so

too often.

Hope your knickers dry out soon...
