tube, 2 x bombs + valve, 2 x allen keys (1 each of 2 sizes, not sure what they are, but its enough for everything on my bike), 1 x puncture plug kit. i'm squeezing them into the camelback at the moment, cos the cheapo saddle bag i bought fell off on my first ride with it unsure.png but it works well.

I only carry spares i never need.

Last time i needed to plug my tyre, I only had hald a bomb.

My riding partner then proceeded to offer his bombs from his hydrationpack....that he left in the car.

Kingskloof is not a fun walk, specially if you have to carry a bike.

Even if you have gatorskins in a road bike? And how often have you needed it?

I've ripped a sidewall on Gatorskins before. Had to walk my bike home. Enough said.

I'll be a little controversial and say that if I stopped to help someone on the road/trail and found they weren't carrying any spares in the first place, I'd likely get back on my bike and leave them there.

Road - Spare tube, couple of patches, 2 tyre levers, multitool, quick link, mini pump.

Mountain - As above + couple of cable ties, derailler hanger, duct tape. For real expeditions also a tyre gaiter and a slime tube rather than an ordinary one.

A folded up R100 note is always stuffed inside my cellphone cover. It is also useful for getting the odd emergency cup of coffee.

Yes, I have Gatorskins and have had punctures with tyres less than 200km old.

I always (race and training) carry:

  • 2 x Bombs
  • 2 x Plastic Tyre Levers
  • 1 x Tube
  • 1 x Patch Kit
  • 1 x Multi Tool

Pretty sure whatever happens, I'll be able to deal with it.

Until you chain breaks?

Guys seriously! I'm talking about carrying spares even though you have PUNCTURE PROTECTION.

The type that goes between your tyre and your inner tube. A lining that's meant to prevent punctures. Called a gatorskin(I think). Or a Z-lining.

On the tandems always some pieces of chain, Shimano link pins and SRAM connector. Chain tool, multitool (if MTB the Torx thingie) Two bombs, adaptor, two tubes, patch and solution (we had seven punctures in one day on the Tandem) Topeak master blaster pump with guage, tyre levers, duct tape, gaitors, I pack the tubes in old socks and take some spare ziplock bags for the cellphone if it rains, two pairs of surgical gloves...... just keeps your hands clean when working chain etc.
