Watching that video has re-gutted me all over again!!! The hardest thing to accept is that we will never know how far he would have gone but we all knew the sky was the limit.

The last sporting hero death where i felt emotion close to what i am feeling now is Aryton Senna back in 1994. The difference is that Burry was a guy who was one of us, someone on our doorsteps, a brother who was in our corner!!

You will be missed and never forgotton and i am sure that your legacy will be many young aspiring Burry's that will try and fill the massive void you have left behind. Imagine.... 3 or 4 South African's in the top 10 of a UCI X-country finishers list in 5 years time.

I come to this thread a couple of times a day and each time I have to remind myself that it is real.....I started the year with such high hopes of a great year and this has really knocked me back a few steps. I don't do resolutions but I will focus a little bit more attention on making road users aware of cyclists because regardless of whether you are a roadie or Mtbiker...we all use the road at some point on our rides and I am SICK and tired of these statistics

My deepest condolences go out to his Wife, Mother, Father and all of his other family members and close friends.

You were u true inspiration, even to a 40 year old who had just started out recently! You made us proud. Not only from a South – African point of view but also from an international mountain biking fraternity across the globe!

RIP Burry

My first post on the forum will be a sad one for me.

I followed Burry's career for the last couple of years. Watched the entire Olympic race, with high hopes for him. He did well ended 5th.

Cycled Rietvlei this morning and stopped @ the cross and thought about his family. May they find strenght through this very sad time.

Being a complete new cyclist I promised myself not too cycle on the open road except during races. Its sad but its true..... the roads in SA is just too bad. RIP Burry.

My partner read me a newspaper piece on him in the car on the way to my dads for the weekend on Saturday and we were both very emotional. Caught some of the super sport programs on tv over the weekend and the same thing - such a deep sense of loss for someone niether of us knew personally and such a feeling of great saddness for his wife, whom my partner knew a little.

Strength to her and his family. What a tradgedy :-(
