Had a 2 rides since with a black armband ( insulation tape couldn't find any other armband to use) thought o him all the way

Glad I saw some other cyclist with armbands, doing Koeberg from home and back tommorow.

I am sure Burry would have rather wanted meto get off my fat ass and get on the bike.

To the guys who havnt ridden since the gerrible news, respect to you, we all have to deal with this in our own way.

Rode this morning, with a black armband. Realized I was quite a bit more aware of what cars are doing around me.

I've just came off a ride at Holla, and found myself thinking of him constantly.

Ditto.

Just couldn't bring myself to look at my bike for the last two days. My way of grieving for the loss of a great man, true legend.

Will go for long ride in Tokai tomorrow afternoon, with black armband... Will try and attack the climbs a bit more, in memory of the legend. Somehow I feel I need to break myself on the mountain tomorrow, to complete the grieving process.

Did a hard 90km today, on the road. I love riding. I heard 300 cyclists a year are killed on our roads. I have known that for Some time. While the loss of such a great person and talent is a huge tragedy it hasn't altered my assessment of the risks at all because the risk hasn't changed, only our perceptions perhaps.

I understand that it makes you think but I will continue to take my chances, as all of us road riders do.

Cape Town - South African Dakar Rally star, Giniel de Villiers, will drive this year's race in memory of compatriot Burry Stander who was tragically killed after being hit by a minibus taxi on the KwaZulu-Natal south coast on Thursday.

VIDEO: Dakar Rally 2013 preview

De Villiers, 40, who won the car section of the Dakar Rally in 2009, posted a picture of his Toyota on Twitter on Friday, with an image of Stander clearly visible taped to his car.

De Villiers tweeted: This is in memory of Burry Stander who will be riding with us in the Dakar this year. One of SA 's greatest sportsman.

The 2013 Dakar Rally starts in Peru on Saturday.

I rode alone the next morning after Burry's passing with my armband . It was my way of saying goodbye as thats what he would have wanted.was also a nice time for me to shed some tears in my own thoughts.

Friday is my rest (and braai and beer) day. So no riding for me.

This morning, i rode to avianto, was a great ride, but i kept on feeling this cloud over me.

On the way backi realised that i may only have today to ride, clicked down a gear on the climbs and put my back into it.

I do however notice increasingly the reckless behaviour of motorists on the road.

The only thing to do is to lead by example on the roads, obey the laws 100% and force the cops to attend to the other offenders on the road.
