Looks like some self righteous **** moderated the thread. Way to go. You would have fitted in well with Hitler's Stasi police.

Moderation should be done worth accountability, explanation.

I've suggested over several times.

Stupido!!

There's a moderators announcements forum. I don't know why the mod in question here didn't post and explanation there. But they should. There wasn't much moderation worthy in this thread.

wow, people getting stroppy on a sensitive topic like this?

This thread should never have got this far, seemed pretty plain from that iol report with the eyewitness account from the liquor store worker. Without that all the silly speculation has just led to silly grandstanding, and it's taken ten pages for someone to draw pictures for those who can't read.

Can't we rather find a zuma/malema/farm murder/lady gaga topic to rather get stroppy on than this issue?

edit: ps. forgot to say that the solid white line is a non issue since the taxi was turning off marine drive, not overtaking.

Ok so we get off with a warning?! So if I go hunting and shoot and kill someone and I say I didn't. See hime. I guess I will get a slap on the head and get off with a warning.

Thanks Clint for clearing that up

Can't this thread be locked now? We have a pretty good idea of what happened and we can now let it go. Lets go back to remembering Burry for the great guy he was and for what he did for the sport while he was still with us

That's just my 2 c on this matter

So that describes the taxi coming from the Port Shepstone direction. Burry heading towards Port Shepstone. The taxi then turned into Stott Str in front of Burry. Note that there is a solid white line on the taxi side of the road. The image below shows the direction Burry was apparently travelling:

With regards to the solid line, you aren't allowed to overtake on it (if you're coming from the far side). but you are allowed to turn right into this street. Note the double/triple line further down the road? You aren't allowed to cross into the oncoming lane there. (so in short, the taxi was allowed to turn).

Another report in Die Beeld implies that Burry was riding within the yellow line :

Sharing the image of the taxi adds to the confusion. Very little damage to be honest. But it does seem to show that the impact was more in the front than a true "t-boning" as some seem to be mentioning.

If you look at the scrapings on the taxi there are scrape marks from the front of the bumper, onto the wheel, and continuing behind the wheel. Burry was flung into Marine Drive, towards his right. This implies that Burry did not hit the taxi square on, but hit the corner of the taxi as it was turning into Stott str.

I cannot explain the emotions I felt when I heard of Burry Stander's death. I wanted to burn every taxi that crosses my path. In order for me to justify these emotions, and to honour the legacy of my hero, I choose to honour and obey the same road traffic act I hold motorists to. If my bike is not allowed in highways, then that's it. No debate.

Definition by the Institute of Civil Engineers.......

Freeway: This is a divided major roadway with full control of access and with no crossings at grade. This definition applies to toll as well as tollfree roads.

Freeway A: This designated roadways with greater visual complexity and high traffic volumes. Usually this type of freeway will be found in metropolitan areas in or near the central core and will operate through much of the early evening hours of darkness at or near design capacity.

Freeway B: This designates all other divided roadways with full control of access where lighting is needed.

A bit too much for Niner I suppose as well

Irrespective of the definitions by the Institute of Civil Engineers, all that counts is the definition by the authorities and as indicated by legislation and indicated by cartographers for this purpose.

Good morning all.

Just a quick question, is it legal to cycle on a highway?

If you are talking about the N4 running through Rtb, NO, you are not LEGALLY allowed to cycle on the whole N4 stretch going through Rtb. All the way from Pta it is not legally allowed, going towards Swartruggens / Moedwil, you can only ride on the N4 from the first Koster turnoff just the other side of Makgatas Nek.

To make it easier for all. Any road where there is no T junctions / Stop streets where you join, but only slipways that allow you to get to speed before joining the road, is not allowed to be cycled.

I wonder if there was a long row of cars on Burry`s side. Since Burry was coming down a hill, and the way that Burry`s side of the road was a bit higher banked, it seems on google streetview, that from the taxi`s point of view he should have been clearly visible, unless traffic obscured the view.

Ya, and the law says you can't ride a bicycle on the highway.
